I only vent here now. Probably not a good follow. Send cat and dog pictures, please. Liked the tan suit. In this very trying time, many many extra typos.

The comments on this post are … something. The lack of empathy, political imagination, and strategic thinking is troubling. C’mon folks. Ben points out a vulnerability and lever (the NG troops who could become allies against these deployments) and the replies are like, “Nope. Eff that. Eff them.”

I dunno about this. Beyond the effects on folks in Ottawa, that the civil case you mentioned might cover/get redress, this was a direct attack on our democracy & rule of law. It contributed to the atmosphere that led to Coutts & damaged our int'l trade. Not enough deterrence & denunciation I feel.

Gonna be hard to attract and retain folks with a brain when they're only interested in promoting folks that want to cosplay with them.

In some future conflict, some "out of shape" geeks with a drone swam are going to annihilate these cosplay dummies like they are the VDV.

Practically though, I suppose you'd take a deposit upfront and/or as per the legislation, goods you could seize.

Inn Keepers' / Hotel Keepers' Acts or similar. The following is from 1936 and long repealed. Every jurisdiction is likely different but later general debtor/creditor legislation probably superseded the hotel specific acts in respect of debt collection.

Hep B was endemic in parts of Asia until vaccination campaigns. It impacts everyone. These idiots are crazy. If they succeed, they are going to condemn hundreds of thousands to misery. Cirrhosis of the liver is a terrible way to die.

The Supreme Court of Canada is taking the case, fairly sure on an expedited basis. I think I can say it came as a bit of a surprise to most people. They think this is a case of national importance - I don't think anyone can be sure what they are thinking.

But then people complain about boring boxes, etc. Probably not good for floor space / developer profit maximization either. But it's a form over function building you'll always get a few of those in a large city. There are always folks who are willing to pay for style.

This whole thread but this part is soooo true. Innovation often happens by "accident". To borrow a ST Voyager reference, "fun will commence" isn't how it works.

🤔 If they issue this, it's going to dilute the market for any "official" commemorative coins, available for two easy payments of $19.95.

Public data and data collection powers business and decision making. It's just one of a number of public services that just works behind the scenes that only a small subset of people pay attention to / understand the importance of.

Just a small quibble re: defence spending - most of spending to acquire new equipment won't generate a future monetary return - we get "safety" but it won't be economic like infrastructure or housing investment where the end product generates economic returns on their own.

One time I was riding a bus and a very young couple sat down in the empty pair of seats in front of me. The girl proceed to take out her resume, reviewing it with her boyfriend. I was close enough to be able to read it over their shoulders, and spotted a typo. This has Haunted me for Years.

i think the most logical solution is that training is infringement, therefore models and outputs cannot be copyrighted

that way, we all benefit from the extant models AND we destroy the companies that creating them AND we redistribute VC wealth to copyright holders. win-win-win (except for artists)

Since the feds don't seem willing to do the hard work of creating a separate regime for criminal organizations - if they're going to lump them together anyways, might as well just change the name of the current act & definitions to reflect what you're actually doing.

I wonder if the feds could resolve some issues by renaming the act by adding "criminal organizations" in addition to the loaded "terrorist" wording. Not the practical application/systemic issues, but at least to better reflect the now broad application of the act.

Pure cultural play. Games are where kids can do a lot of learning these days. It'll take a while but they are buying influence with future generations.

Silicon Valley enabled brutal mass detention and surveillance in China, internal documents show U.S. technology firms such as IBM, Dell and Cisco largely designed and built China’s surveillance state, an AP investigation finds. The tech companies deny wrongdoing.
