I try to make digital things easier to use for everyone, including people with disabilities. Recently retired from Harvard. I go for walks and watch bunnies destroy everything I grow in my garden. After that I read.

Budget cuts come for us all. My contract with Amtrak is not being renewed and it's up tomorrow.

I'll have more time to work on the Map Center but until it's fully off the ground, I'm a GIS analyst with 12 years of experience in ESRI, open source, education and cartography.

Folks always go round and round on what we can do to solve these problems and I'm always in awe of how they absolutely refuse to do anything to solve the problem which is so simply it's ridiculous. You give people what they need, no strings attached. Housing. Food. Water. Clothing, CARE.

This is a photograph of the post office in the flooded city of Haverhill MA, after the 1936 hurricane, taken by my grandfather.

I've also thought about writing about my experience, but the unique perspective of "friends helping friends" is a really good one to share

Bruce Willis’ wife says actor has a β€˜dude hangout’ with friends every Friday

This is so heartening. I don't know what my friend's family would have done without the Thursday Night Ladies who kept coming every week despite her FTD.

I wouldn't be surprised if that group's story influenced Bruce's friends.

Showing up is so important, but is so hard for most people to understand or do, due to pain avoidance (which is real, I get it). We should all be so lucky to be around those who do show up if/when it happens to us. I'm so grateful for the time I was able to spend with my stepmom who had FTD.
