Climate Change Is Subjecting More Americans to Unbearable Extreme Heat Climate change is exacerbating extreme heat waves across the country, burdening families, putting Americans’ health at risk, driving up utility bills, straining ecosystems, and deepening inequality.

140M+ Americans are under heat alerts this week. Our new report breaks down how climate change is supercharging this deadly heat, driving up bills, straining hospitals and power grids, and hitting working-class, Black, and brown communities hardest. www.americanprogress.org/article/clim...

On July 4, 2025, President Donald Trump signed congressional Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) into lawβ€”enacting the largest-ever cuts to basic needs programs in U.S. history in order to fund tax cuts for the ultrawealthy. The law’s provisions have dozens of staggered beginning and ending dates over the next decade. Below is a timeline that details the enactment dates of cuts to health care and food assistance, the cancellation of policies to make American-made energy more affordable, the implementation of tax changes, and the enactment of policies that will raise the costs of higher education.

Is this abundance?

This project was approved under FAST-41, meaning it had expedited permit approvals. It also had labor, domestic supply chain, power offtake agreements for communities attached to it... meaning a whole lot of high quality American jobs and affordable energy just went up in flames.

Energy communities - left with toxic, abandoned sites and lost employment - were slated to receive new jobs, energy, and revenues fueled by IRA. The β€˜Big, Beautiful’ bill pulls the plug on this future by ending tax credits early #OBBB πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘ www.americanprogress.org/article/the-...

The Republicans are voting now for massive layoffs and bankruptcies throughout the clean energy economy – a trillion dollar investment in a better future, abandoned.

The world we would have built is so different from the one we will now have to live in.

– New taxes on clean energy investment.

– Termination of the Fuel Economy Standards for new cars and trucks.

– A new tax subsidy for coal.

It's a collection of the worst, most harmful ideas you can imagine. And the Republican Senate is voting for them now.

Who exactly is winning under the Trump administration? Not people like Cody who just returned home from military leave to a price spike in his electric bill.

➑️ Share this video and let us know if you also got a notice that your electric bill is going up.

I used to staff a senator from California. There is no way that anything like what just happened to Senator Padilla would ever have been thought possible before this regime's powergrab. If the Senate does not assert itself, it is lost.

While announcing her intent to liberate Los Angeles from its elected officials, the Secretary of Homeland Security oversaw the use of force against a sitting U.S. Senator who dared to question her.

Things were already bad, and this is a major escalation.

We could have built a grid that would supply up to 88 percent of its electricity without any fossil fuel costs by 2035. Repealing federal clean energy investment will cost us so much.

12.06.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

That means wasting money on expensive and polluting fuel that didn't need to be burned. It means higher costs for households and manufacturers. It makes it harder for data centers and new factories to be placed on the grid. It means hundreds of thousands of lost construction jobs.

12.06.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Some new baseload gas plants might come online instead (no more than 10 GW/yr), but in place of the new clean affordable electricity that would have been built, power plants would be called on to generate more power, unnecessarily consuming expensive and polluting fuel.

12.06.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If clean energy tax credits are repealed, the average annual deployment of solar, wind, and storage would likely fall down to 34 GW or even to as little as 13 GW under certain conditions.

12.06.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

IRA changed all that. The explosion in clean energy investment is set to add 58 GW of solar, wind, and batteries to the grid this year. In the coming decade, deployment was projected to surge to an average rate of almost 100 GW per year, or even up to 170 GW per year in 2035.

12.06.2025 17:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In the decade before the Inflation Reduction Act was enacted, an average of only 15 GW of solar, wind, and batteries were added to the grid each year. Gas added 4 GW on average. Everything else shrank or stayed constant.

As much as 72 percent of all clean energy capacity that would have been built over the next decade would disappear if clean energy investments are terminated.

That would wipe out more than half of all new electricity capacity additions to the grid. Whoa.

The Real Path to Abundance - Boston Review To deliver plentiful housing and clean energy, we have to get the story right about what’s standing in the way.

This is an exceptionally thoughtful critique of the "abundance" story, and it uses several real world examples to show how to think about what it takes for government to build, from the Vogtle nuclear power plants to the New Deal electrification effort.
