i think this is a good explanation. i think we're not a very liberal country, and hard not to see us behaving more like an aristocracy that played at liberalism in part because the americans were really into it.

i also think we're sort of missing out on the ideas of the intertwinedness of leftism/socialism and liberalism.

i find a lot of it quite helpful. in the sense that we don't have as coherant a view on liberalism and even now very little thought leadership on whats needed in europe strengthen/ revitalise liberal democracy.
