Wag the Dog I don't feel fits on this list... If anything, it seems a better example of how things haven't changed.
I don't remember it having a positive 'spin' on the US, considering the plot is about spinning narratives.

Big on politics, world history, tech, philosophy, and never-ending growth and improvement. Not much of a complainer. Be the change you wish to see in the world.

I'm not a woman, but if I were I would probably run to the men's bathroom regardless if I saw another woman in medieval armor standing by the front door. I don't need to be trans to have absolutely zero desire to be anywhere near her.

If someone starts spouting nonsense or toxicity in my life - I cut them out and avoid them.
Blocking is where it's at. Social media should give users the power to remove whatever content or people they choose
Or learning how to critically think.
04.01.2025 15:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The foreign policy quote for our upcoming administration that hasn't been said:
'Speak loudly and carry a small stick you won't use, as well as huge checks you can't cash.'
When I was young, I actually aspired to be in politics but backed away because I felt corruption was too deep already, and didn't want to sell my soul for power.
I find that more of a spiritual revelation than what Bannon's selling here.
Maybe God's plan is for Geatz to pack it all up...
I have actually felt like Dem party should just be egging on these cat fights as much as possible. Accusations of disloyalty should be neverending, coming from both inside and outside.

18.12.2024 18:15 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Genuinely curious if you know anything about Connelly outside of as a comparison to AOC or Raskin?
I do not. Whether he won 8 elections prior - I've never heard of him until this week. I've known (and thought highly) of Raskin and AOC for years.
It's not us. This was a closed-door congressional vote. The people didn't have a say.
18.12.2024 16:45 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I'm an independent who hates MAGA, so the only rallying I will do for the DNC is when they make winning decisions I can get behind. Pretty sure even hardcore Dems would back a winner.
18.12.2024 13:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Touche. And I like Raskin too and would never make such comments about him. Can't pinpoint the difference, other than possibly just exposure. I have seen Raskin on the front lines for years while, but until this week I'd never even heard of Connelly.
18.12.2024 12:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'll give you that hypothetical, but I won't be jumping with enthusiasm over what looks like a choice that offers a slim chance to meet the lowest bar of just basic competence.
18.12.2024 12:24 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Except MAGA had no hand in this. It was the DNC. The election is over now. Tell the leadership that just got voted in to 'show up.'
18.12.2024 12:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Can't empathize if he's given a powerful position he can't wield.
Lorenzo De Medici 'the Magnificent' of the Renaissance period was succeeded by 'Piero the Gouty' - remembered only for being bedridden from gout. He died in power, killed the Medici line, and opened the door to more corruption.
Actions are what I need to see.
18.12.2024 11:39 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fine, let's take age aside. If her future contribution looks like it has for the last year, she can keep them to herself. I don't like weak, spineless losers who can't take risks - especially when that's all the other side does.
18.12.2024 11:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Already am. Been waiting for progressives or non-corporate Dems to stop hitching their wagon to the losing DNC and start something else. Forever independent until something new and aggressive rises from all these political ashes and geriatric bodies.
18.12.2024 03:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now outside the talk, what does the new fight look like?
I'm not against it, but I certainly need to see how this fight would end differently than the last - through actions, not just words.
So does this mean that under Hegseth's DoD - they'll offer government sanctioned drinking celebrations where it would be acceptable for Hegseth to drink and dunk himself into a vat of champagne multiple times?
18.12.2024 03:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Surprise - but it's not just 'low info' voters. I haven't relied on legacy media in over 15 years, and I ravenously consume info from independent sources like the Meidas Touch and will never return to cable or traditional news platforms of any persuasion.

18.12.2024 02:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I like this perspective. I've long since felt like 2A rights based on their spirit hardly matters anymore as long as US has drones. If the American revolution happened today, I'd be fighting for the people's rights to have lethal drone capabilities in order to fight against a tyrannical government π€·ββοΈ
18.12.2024 01:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Agreed. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but was it not AOC who proposed the legislation to end insider trading which failed?
My memory may be faulty on that, but I at least feel like I recall AOC supported it.
Who the hell voted for this? Dem House representatives? Certainly not the people.
How frustrating and disappointing. Can progressives please just start their own party already?
What does it take to make this happen?
But I'm beyond that now. My main priority now is to vote for the party that actually *fights* against their idea of evil, rather than just the party that thinks their vote is earned for doing the bare minimum and being 'less awful.'
Progressives fight. That's why they get votes.
I'd say it extends beyond the youth. I'm Gen X, not Gen Z, but even I have felt like I had to hold my nose voting for Dems for several elections already because they are at least 'the lesser of two evils.'
18.12.2024 01:14 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0I wanna know why it would be so impossible for these fighter-Dems to start their own party and not be so hopelessly hitched to the failing mainstream Democrat wagon.
What are the limitations to that?
