The Epstein files have shown just how cheap and disposable other humans are to these people. Their wealth and power has facilitated their worst instincts without consequence, they abuse and murder without consequence, they lie and lie about it without consequence. I've never been so disgusted.

Orbàn was smarter about it, but yeah the systems in place turned out to be hollow after all. I don't know how you come back from that. No one is going to trust US institutional power after this. Even if Trump is impeached today, the USA betrayed its people, its allies, and its own constitution.

I didn't believe US institutions would hold for long, there is part of them that agrees with the American exceptionalism Trump gives voice too. I am surprised how quickly other countries folded, at least at first. I'm not surprised the people became the true bulwark against fascism.

An Iranian colleague once said that many in Iran aren't religious, they just say they are. Why would they be when it is a weapon wielded as an excuse to kill those they love? That is the simplest truth of people, I think, a desire to be freely and peacefully themselves with those they love.

But they took the wrong lessons from the 20thC. The truth is closer to: "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time". The tighter the grip, the more extreme and cruel, and the more resolute the resistance.

They are too far into their ideology, too selfish, to understand the cause and effect of people. They know history at its shallowest and most self serving. They know advertising works. That propaganda works. They've fooled themselves into thinking it's easier than it is. The Edward Bernays playbook.

It's exhausting and needs to be confronted. It feels like Advance's ragebait bot farming is on every online video that has the thinnest mention of #auspol now. I take some solace in that it'll backfire on them too. It already has, they sought to influence the LNP and it collapsed.
