US farmers are saying they "just need temporary help, until things get better."

Here's the thing. US farm exports- which are mostly soy- CANNOT get better.

Other countries expanded their soy industries to fill China's demand.

We've walled ourselves out of the global market, folks. This is it.

Been doing a lot of thinking about governance, geopolitics, and wicked problems lately.

Here's a thought: politicians/political parties *alone* aren't responsible for how messed up a country is.

Here me out....

Remembering what Nye Bevan said about why the NHS existed:

β€œNo society can legitimately call itself civilized if a sick person is denied medical aid because of lack of means."

Reeves needs to learn the history of her party.

AI Overview: "Dental realism"refers to the philosophical debate about whether teeth exist independently of human perception, a concept rooted in metaphysical realism. While realism asserts an objective reality for teeth, idealist philosophies contend that teeth's existence is tied to our consciousness and perception. Philosophers use this idea, for example, to discuss the ethics of tooth extraction, examining whether a procedure impacts a real entity or merely a subjective experience.

OK, a🧡: Our new paper studies workers' political consciousness in times of class demobilization.

We show there's more to workers' politics than right-wing resentment. Listening to workers, we reconstruct their moral critiques of money, power & recognition.

Instead of blunting extremism, this dynamic justifies and strengthens it. What was once fringe becomes common sense. The Overton window shifts, and centrists are left managing expectations they can never satisfy.

When centrists adopt far-right rhetoric, they don’t make themselves stronger. They make themselves look inauthentic, legitimise the far right, and shift the political debate onto terrain defined by their opponents.

Politicians now talk of climate β€˜pragmatism’ to delay action – new study Politicians talk about being pragmatic on climate change to avoid hard decisions.

Happy to share our new research on UK climate politics 🚨

We found Members of Parliament (MPs) use the language of climate "pragmatism" to avoid rapid change. It risks becoming a new discourse of delay.
