I agree. I live in a rural area and neighbors really lean in and support neighbors here. It’s a beautiful thing and something I’m glad to be a part of. It’s sad that so many suburbs aren’t like this.

Letting go of the vice grip of societal pressure is very good for people who are relatively mentally healthy. I’ve found myself focusing on building something that gives back to the community.

To be honest. This really takes the pressure off on wondering whether my life has any meaning beyond the blip my mote of existence. Means we should all just try to live well and enjoy the experience.

I am so sorry. There is no pain like losing a beloved family member. Dogs are the best of us. Be gentle with yourself. The loss of a dog is a profound grief. One that deserves to be honored.

I keep explaining to people that it’s just a really big, really fast, predictive text engine like the one served above your keyboard on a smartphone when you’re typing. It’s looking for patterns but has no idea if it’s “right” it’s just “most probable string of text.”

Same. I keep seeing people suggest that they do just that on social media. Talking about how it’s better than a therapist. It’s like talking to an echo that will serve up what it thinks you want to hear. Or validate what you already think.

I hear you. I’m about to dive back into the Dune series. My trust of most of what I encounter online now is super low. I used to work in tech and many new apps make me nervous with the poor quality of the coding and security.

Oh absolutely. I have been starting a business and want to start another but there is so much uncertainty that investors are frozen. Just waiting.

I’m not in the industry but I consume podcasts all the time. I guess I need to go do a little searching on the web to find out why.

True. I hope to God that people aren’t actually interested in listening to those. But the way things are going who the fuck knows. What I want to know is how will we know what and who is real unless they are standing in front of us?

And podcasting seems like it’s doing well and actually requires humans for content creation. That’s concerning.

For example. I have a friend who used to post a weekly Friday funnies thing in a FB group. The memes shared were often political & anti-M. They dropped out of posting for fear of reprisals. Both spouses are scared of work issues. They live in Massachusetts and are still scared.

I think people don’t know what to do. Many are in survival mode. Calling reps seems useless. Donating, emailing, showing up at events, sharing on socials now feel risky and they are scared.

Not excusing it but acting risks their economic health. They won’t act until the calculus changes.
