It’s my birthday and honestly I hate my birthday every year because it’s the end of fucking January in MN. There are piles of dirty snow and the roads are a bumpy mess and it’s still dark and cold and now there’s Everything Else and yeah. I should start celebrating my birthday in the summer.

If you're wondering how big a town Minneapolis is, I knew two different (unrelated) people on Anderson Cooper's town hall thing.

We live in a compliance-based society. When kids refuse to comply, parents are told to get stricter. To show who’s boss through threats and punishment. Law enforcement is told the same. To allow non-compliance means you’re weak, bad at your job. Shame is an intolerable emotion for most people.

I just responded to the scene at 26th and Nicollet shortly after the observer was shot. They teargassed and/or pepper sprayed Jana Shortal of KARE11 at the scene and she was being treated when I walked up. ICE have a fancy camera they are using to scan the faces of the crowd.

As you are reading this news from outside the state, please understand - this is a very dense, mixed residential and commercial area where families and kids hang out. Where I’ve been with my children countless times. This isn’t a “protestor”. This is a bystander hanging out on a Saturday morning.
