The bank has, at least twice, helpfully corrected the spelling of my middle name. This triggers a mismatch and my account is restricted, not frozen, so I find out when making a big payment.
They apologise and pay compensation after a day or two, but imagine that happening to your *official* ID.

I think I'm coming round to the idea that if we have id cards, even if optional, they should be in-house. .gov already has passport and driving licence info and that seems to have minimal problems. Voter registration works really well.

Long ago in the mists of time I worked in a metals lab. I don't think I ever worked with cadmium, but I used chromium salts often and they were treated very warily. There are chrome pigments, but I don't think they're still used.

That wouldn't worry me. With just that excerpt, I read it that the tubes of paint were being squeezed - no skin contact needed.
