Folks in SLO and Cambria, weโ€™re performing at this tribute for Nanci Griffith and Jerry Jeff Walker in a couple of weeks, put on by Songwriters at Play. Weโ€™d love to see you there!

Trans day of remembrance. Don't just focus on those trans people who have been murdered by strangers in public. Also remember the trans people who were denied healthcare, allowed to die in prison, encouraged to kill themselves by their loved ones, buried under the wrong name by their families.

one of the podjons (i think the straight one) in reference to that NYT piece about how โ€œspecial interestsโ€ like trans people and immigrants lost the dems the election: โ€œDems should resist any group or special interest that pressures them to take positions opposed by the electoral majority essential to win, whether that's big corporations, rich donors, nonprofits, whoever.
This isn't about blaming specific groups for defeat - it's about what's required to win.โ€

growing chorus of โ€œthrow trans people to the wolvesโ€ from high profile libs is not shocking but it is certainly nerve-wracking lol

RFK Jr. spent years stoking fear and mistrust of vaccines. These people were hurt by his work The book, called โ€œCause Unknown,โ€ was co-published by an anti-vaccine group led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now running for president.

RFK advised American Samoa to stop using the MMR vaccine and 83 people died including children. He could do the same nationally and kill thousands.

People will die.

Additional scripts for cis het white men who want to be better allies:

โ€œWhat a weird thing to sayโ€

โ€œDo you hear yourself right now?โ€

โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t say shit like that to peopleโ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t let you talk to them that wayโ€

โ€œThatโ€™s a disgusting opinion to haveโ€

The responsibility for resisting and correcting this behavior shouldnโ€™t fall solely on a specific gender. If youโ€™re a man of conscience and you see another man mimicking Nick Fuentes, fuck him up on sight before the women even get a chance. I mean that.

When facing the "All we need is STEM!" approach to education, my usual response is: Developing the vaccine was the STEM problem; distribution & getting shots in arms was the Social Science problem; getting people to trust it & combatting misinformation was the Humanities problem-- which did we fail?

Some of the reluctance to hold Trump accountable was a function of the same old perverse political incentivesโ€”elected Republicans feared a political backlash from their base. But after January 6, a new, more existential brand of cowardice had emerged. One Republican congressman confided to Romney that he wanted to vote for Trumpโ€™s second impeachment, but chose not to out of fear for his familyโ€™s safety. The congressman reasoned that Trump would be impeached by House Democrats with or without himโ€”why put his wife and children at risk if it wouldnโ€™t change the outcome? Later, during the Senate trial, Romney heard the same calculation while talking with a small group of Republican colleagues. When one senator, a member of leadership, said he was leaning toward voting to convict, the others urged him to reconsider. You canโ€™t do that, Romney recalled someone saying. Think of your personal safety, said another. Think of your children. The senator eventually decided they were right.

I'm sorry, but if I'm a freaking US Senator and I make calculations about how to vote based on whether the supporters of the leader of my party might kill me or my family, then I'd probably do some soul searching about the party I've chosen.
