According to Gallup, just 32% of adults pay very close attention to national political news. In 2015, a third of U.S. adults did not know there were three branches of the federal government. Nearly 40% of voting-eligible Americans in 2024 didn’t even vote.”

The claim is that there are unappreciated cultural and economic countervailing forces that are not well understood by citizens. We ascribe it all to politics. I don’t know all the answers to questions that you pose, I just believe that politics nibbles around the edges of these forces.

I’m claiming that people were impatient, and ascribe magical powers to POTUS to improve conditions immediately. Now, we can see that they CAN and Do wreck things quickly.

Obama was taken to the woodshed during the midterms, in an anti incumbency backlash. He was reelected by a skim, but republicans retained control of the House as a check, which ofc, made the govt seem dysfunctional once again.
