We used to have some societal norms against this stuff, and they were getting stronger. Then the editors and investors decided that *actually* the cultural crisis is white men feeling any doubt about themselves whatsoever.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

fwiw, I saw only "I, Borg" in a college TV class in the late 90s & it single-handedly made me realize I'd been utterly wrong thinking Star Wars was better than Star Trek.

(But I'll also admit it wasn't until watching DS 9 that I really got into the whole franchise—and I'm thankful I finally did!)

I actually think it’s a good thing that there are people who devote their working lives to studying something that may only be of interest to a small number of people, who get on here with great excitement and say “I nerded the heck out of this for three years, I’m proud of me, read my article!”
