Very happy to announce another article is out this week 🎉!

This paper took some time to get from my PhD to here, but I'm so happy it has now found a home in SSLA: doi.org/10.1017/S027....

Special thanks to my supervisors and co-authors @samhellmuth.bsky.social and Leah Roberts.

Survey of teachers and accents EMC's Dan Clayton explores the implications of a survey looking at teachers and accents

I’ve written a long blog here that comes out of various things that I’ve worked on with other people this term. It’s about accents... again! Sorry, not sorry.

Since January 2022, we (me, 93% Club & SS) have been working a project that tackles accent bias in Higher Education, focusing on the 'elite' institution where we're based. Today, we're launching the project website which brings together all our work:

Hi @lner.co.uk - can you contact your rail replacement contractor asap and ask them to ensure the coaches parked along Knavesmire Road this morning do *not* leave their engines running while parked up please? There are kids and families at football matches having to breathe the fumes. Thanks!

A pitch contours plot showing the shape of pitch rise at the end of questions in Cairene Egyptian Arabic, on words with different numbers of syllables, and with the stress on different syllables of the word. The rise typically starts at the beginning of the stressed syllable then carries on rising towards the end of the utterance. There are some dinks in the rise along the way in some cases, but those can mostly be explained by the properties of the sounds in the word, such as a fully voiced /d/ between two vowels, that depresses the F0 contour due to voicing during the closure.
