Making an area more mobile for adults WILL make it more mobile for youths. Where we see the most fleshed out transit systems we often see kids being taught how to use it properly and safely. Because the transit is well developed overall, making it function well will lead to people adopting it.

So whatever federal funds are dispersed while often covering a large chunk of the cost is still being made up for by the state/locality and we can a basic idea of just how much more train projects generally are for the public.

Lets do a basic comparison of federal funds needed. In 2022 both high speed rail and bus rapid transit received appropriated funds for 4 years. Trains were getting 164 bn over 4 years, buses were getting 60 bn over 4 years. For many local transit projects federal funds make up ~half the cost

The biggest problem associated with trains is that they are expensive. Expensive in money and land used. Buses, even the most expensive and built up bus lines, are a fraction of the cost of any train line in terms of money or land use.

I dunno, maybe the Supreme Court majority could have the decency to bestir themselves to write an actual, you know, opinion, with their names on it, explaining their endorsement of using race and ethnicity as part of a national policy of harassing and intimidating non-white Americans.

About the worst (weirdest?) part was the random pairs of guys in military gear doing absolutely nothing. Along with the seemingly empty humvee right out front in a walking area maybe 100 feet from the "F*ck Trump" tents. There were still tour buses and the humvee is what was scaring people not DC.

Unfortunately as a grad student I've seen people just in the process of finding research to write about in final papers admit to using chatgpt to find studies to use (and even say they had to sort through fake results) instead of figuring out how to use the online library database.

If you aren't already against AI this sort of stuff should make you against it. The amount of water and energy required for it will only increase as people try to force AI into every industry. You'll either be asked to use less water or the pollution created will destroy your environment.

Should know 2 things in transportation. 1 - you aren't going to ban cars anywhere in America probably ever. 2 - banning cars isn't the proper way to go about it or talk about goals related go transportation because of how easily that is misinterpreted.

I think someone who boils their take on transportation to 'ban cars' have only a passing interest in. I know very few people who would say this because anyone actually talking about decreasing car traffic doesnt go around just suggesting a ban on cars because thats silly. Anyone interested...

So nowadays, the racists, sexists, homophobes, transphobes, etc, they dont have to defend their words or actions cause they're just joking around and you're the bad guy for bringing it up. So they get to claim they don't even believe it but can spew it all day long.

So around other men, you tend to accept that "boys will be boys" mentality so broadly that suddenly your friends are ACTUALLY using slurs or whatever. You don't know what to do either cause they're your friends but you know they're wrong. If you bring it up you'll be killing the vibe and ostracized

As a young man growing up in the internet age this is one of the biggest problems of our gen. Around other men all politeness and pretext drops. You know what they mean when they say certain words. A lot of men know that certain things are unacceptable today but a lot them still want to say it

Many states have kept taxes low or lower them further by relying on these fed funds for things they may normally have to fund themselves. No state should be in favor of these cuts.

It's also not like most states have the funding systems in place to cover lost funds from the fed govt. Especially say, education. The only thing pulling mass fed funds will do is crater these services across the country especially in poorer states.

Love it. Proper usage of these internal levers to get rid of incapable or corrupt leadership. It SHOULD be an example for Congress to look at and consider what tools they have... too bad
