All day, my husband giving me minute to minute Ryder Cup updates like a have a clue what heโ€™s talking about. I listen and pretend to be interested because he loves it so much. And tonight Iโ€™ll tell him all about my half marathon training or the book Iโ€™ve been reading. ๐Ÿค

Cobs was generous with donations to an organization I was involved in as well. Love that company.

What bothers me is that 2 yrs ago the UCP claimed to have a $20 billion surplus
Now when it comes time to negotiate they have a deficit of $7 billion
Where did the money go?
It should have gone on our teachers, acquiring healthcare workers & Albertans
I think it went on UCP donors

They should move to Victoria! I walk along the waterfront every day, saw an orca tonight and I need a doctor! (No ulterior motive here at all!)

I justโ€ฆโ€ฆ.donโ€™t understand why there arenโ€™t laws against houses being bought up by corporations (or capital firms or whatever) for purposes other than living in them. In Ireland or in the U.S. And possibly elsewhere? Outlaw that shit ffs

One takeaway for Canadians watching whatโ€™s happening in the United States right now is that we need to put more pressure on governments / parties to strengthen democratic institutions and the fourth estate

You can also defend democracy by supporting the work of journalists and civil society groups

You and your family are in my old neighbourhood(lived in Klagenfurt, Austria for many years) so I am enjoying your photos so much. Brings back good memories for me. Thanks for posting and hope you are having a great time. Be sure to try โ€œkremna rezinaโ€ (cream cake) in Slovenia.

Just arrived home after a month there. Enjoy! Itโ€™s one of my favourite countries in Europe.

Woohoo! Moving there in a month and looking forward to seeing what I can grow! Spent the last month in Italy and my sister has olive trees here. However, I never imagined theyโ€™d grow in Canada. Keep us updated if they ripen.

Iโ€™ve been only walking stairs on vacation in Italy (stairs are soooo plentiful here and where I am in Italy has a serious lack of walking/running paths) but went for a run yesterday and my fitness level has dramatically improved despite not running for 3 weeks. Who knew?!?

Iโ€™ve been in Italy the past month and my gawd, they ARE noisy creatures. Theyโ€™ve drowned out my tinnitus here!!

โ€œIt was a very healthy reciprocal acceptance of suffering,โ€ he said. โ€œWhich does not mean being defeated by suffering. Acceptance is not defeat. Acceptance is just awareness.โ€ He smiled in anticipation of the callback: โ€œ โ€˜You gotta learn to love the bomb,โ€™ โ€ he said. โ€œBoy, did I have a bomb when I was 10. That was quite an explosion. And I learned to love it. So that's why. Maybe, I don't know. That might be why you don't see me as someone angry and working out my demons onstage. It's that I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.โ€

I love the thing that I most wish had not happened.

I asked him if he could help me understand that better, and he described a letter from Tolkien in response to a priest who had questioned whether Tolkien's mythos was sufficiently doctrinaire, since it treated death not as a punishment for the sin of the fall but as a gift. โ€œTolkien says, in a letter back: โ€˜What punishments of God are not gifts?โ€™ โ€ Colbert knocked his knuckles on the table. โ€œ โ€˜What punishments of God are not gifts?โ€™ โ€ he said again. His eyes were filled with tears. โ€œSo it would be ungrateful not to take everything with gratitude. It doesn't mean you want it. I can hold both of those ideas in my head.โ€

when i think of Colbert, i think of an interview he gave to GQ when he first took over The Late Show, and had this to say about losing his father and brothers in a plane crash. www.gq.com/story/stephe...

I have a VHS copy of Dazed and Confused still in the Blockbuster video case. Was relieved (and felt somewhat responsible) when I found it and the company was already bankrupt.

Beloit, WI revitalized its waterfront and chose this way to celebrate it: by bringing to life Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."
