Most of the internet used to be like this. This is actually the default, it took companies enclosing the internet and adding weird, soul-killing incentives to make people behave the way they do now. In a way, there is truly nothing special about Wikipedia except that it survived longer.

I do firmly believe that refusing to outsource your basic cognitive functions to LLMs right now - as so many are stumbling over themselves to do right now, like hogs trotting to a pile of slop that’s been set up inside of a butcher’s delivery truck - will very much pay off in a few years.

In urban centers with high competition and many people living alone, delivery is nearly free and meals $10-15. Economics breaks down if you have a family. But grocery stores also price by zip code income level, so it mutually reinforces.

NEW: Microsoft told @propublica.org that it disclosed details of the escort program to the U.S. government.

But the Pentagon’s IT agency was unaware until reporter @reneedudley.bsky.social asked for comment.

Here’s the bottom line for what’s going on with Grok - if the owner of the website is putting his thumb on the scale hard enough for the chatbot to turn into Goebbels, you should be deeply concerned about what he’s doing to the algorithm that you can’t so easily see, and what it’s doing to you

This is not a comment on this particularly, but I've said on different platforms there are relatively significant portions of humanity that aren't psychologically equipped to understand something that so closely mirrors human intelligence. Thinking through ~how and why it responds just doesn't work.

IDF soldiers ordered to shoot deliberately at unarmed Gazans waiting for humanitarian aid ***

I have read many horrific wartime reports in my life and this one is a standout.

Members of the IDF who feel this way need to start outright refusing the order to shoot. These are war crimes, crimes against humanity, and nothing is worth the stain on your soul.

What It Took To Win Thoughts on Zohran Mamdani's Popular Front

"The problem with the polling and all the emphasis on data in contemporary politics is that it does not take into account that the electorate doesn’t really exist until election day, and the politician and his or her campaign are actively creating that electorate."

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧡 1/17

The problem is Trump consistently wants maximum payout outcomes for himself (zero enrichment deal-making and capitulation, or a quick, clean MOP-up of the problem). Neither is a realistic outcome, so we muddle along in crisis.
