This is so disappointing from Labour
There we all were in #UKHE waiting for a different attitude to student immigration & development of sensible policy maybe even taking international students out of immigration stats. But this feels too similar to the last 14 years & I’m done 👋🏽

Meanwhile, the incessant claims from some politicians and newspapers about recent growth being mostly or entirely driven by “low-skilled migration” have little or no support from the actual data. There are certainly plenty of recent migrants on relatively low pay – but equally many on average or better wages. And, perhaps more importantly, they seem to be seeing quite rapid earnings progression, so the longer-term impacts may be even more positive.

The lack of any attempt to change the discourse on immigration is what disappoints me most about this government. Its attack on international students and effectively on HE in the UK has appalled me. So infuriating.

Mmmm but the immigration issue is more nuanced than Tory & Reform stopping the boats & it’s disappointing there hasn’t been any attempt by Labour to talk about legal immigration with time limited visas such as those coming to universities & the need for migrant workers in our NHS & social care etc 😔
