Here in Boston we also have small format H-Mart (national chain), Target (always with groceries), and Roche Brothers/Brothers Marketplace (regional chain). But I get the feeling people are comfortable shopping at independents so the demand for small format chains isn't as high

I was surprised at the number of apartments around here that are 2bd/2ba until I realized it's basically just a way to split the kitchen/any living room with someone to get cheaper rent. And tbh with your own bathroom it's not even that bad

I think a lot of single people also don't want to eat leftovers and aren't great at remixing ingredients/pantry management to avoid leftovers. The latter is a separate skill that's harder to teach, the former, well, the word decadence comes to mind
