If the kids are older: I generally get to do what I want, in the way that I want to - but increasingly less so than I wish I did. Also, "doing what I want to do" is what I've done all the way through, but it took a lot of luck for this "strategy" (ahem) to work out and it was a really tough journey

If the kids are younger: As a 9yo, I wanted to become a biologist and research endangered species in the Brazilian rainforest. I ended up in international politics/peace research instead, but got invited to Rio de Janeiro as guest professor and got to see a bit of the rainforest. No regrets. <3

An meiner Fakultät in NL hatten wir im letzten Frühjahr auch volle Stellen für vier Jahre (und nicht wie früher Stipendien) für die Promotion ausgeschrieben. Leider wegen des hiesigen harten Sparkurses in diesem Umfang vermutlich erstmal zum letzten Mal. :-/
