I remember listening to a bit of an Obama speech (I think it was on NPR?), well before the primary started and before I'd ever heard his name mentioned as a potential candidate. I remember thinking, "I bet he's going to be president." Can't explain why, just seemed like he had "it."

I'm glad for the example. I've used some of these with my students to explain why they shouldn't rely on the AI summary.

My favorite was googling "difference between a sauce and a dressing." Answer: "sauces add flavor and texture to dishes, while dressings are used to protect wounds"

Google AI Overview for a search of "is san juan island further north than maine" Answer: Yes, San Juan Island is further north than most of Maine, with its northern latitude comparable to or exceeding even the northernmost parts of Maine. For example, Friday Harbor, located on San Juan Island, has a latitude that is further north than the state of Maine. On the side are two Instagram posts with the text, "Friday Harbor, San Juan Island. The latitude here is further north than Maine."

It's answer now is better, but still wrong (or at least severely misleading). All of San Juan Island is further north than all of Maine, but Google's AI summary says, "San Juan Island is further north than most of Maine."

The sources it uses to back this up are two Instagram posts.

And keeps adding useful features! Within the last couple years they added a highlighting/notetaking system. I can write notes as I read, then export notes and highlights to markdown or drag them to another program. It makes clear what's a quote, what's my own writing, and adds a citation.
