New study finds more than 400 pregnancy-related prosecutions after Roe's fall Most of the cases involved allegations of substance use during pregnancy, a nonprofit legal group found.

Over a two-year period, prosecutors across 16 states charged more than 400 people with pregnancy-related crimes, with most of the charges originating in states with near or total abortion bans, according to a new report released Tuesday.

In 2024, abortion beat the Democrat on the ballot in Florida (+14), Arizona (+15), Missouri (+11), Nevada (+16). In 2022, it gave us a "blue undertow" that staved off the full red wave.

UCLA in the ranks of institutions that stand upβ€”and prevail.

And another [non-Scotus, of course] federal judge in the ranks of those who stand up for rule of law.

Courage and principle are contagious. Stand up, and support others who do.

These numbers are fantastic!

Based on my reporting last week, it also seems that a big part of what's needed for future sustainability is to shore up ad rates on these platforms so that cultural influence and profitability can once again be directly proportional.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

Can Democrats win again? Voters want populist grit on economic issues. | Opinion A new poll suggests many voters skipped the 2024 election because they didn't want to vote for the lesser of two evils.

"A new Way to Win poll, conducted with Lake Research Partners, offers a rarity for Democrats in this political moment: Hope," write @jenancona.bsky.social & @celindalake.bsky.social in USA Today Opinion.

In Trump’s Federal Work Force Cuts, Black Women Are Among the Hardest Hit

Black women have every right to be furious. The irresponsible choices of white voters has for many of us, taken our livelihood with consequences for our homes, the education of our children, our ability to care for parents.

It’s unconscionable.

Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.

1. This week, the FBI released its comprehensive crime report for 2024, which revealed that both VIOLENT CRIME and PROPERTY CRIME reached their LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1960s

This a massive story. But you might not have heard about it, even if you follow the news closely.

Here's why.

We are members of the Writers Guild of America who speak with one voice to decry the dangerous and escalating attacks on the First Amendment, independent media, and the free press.
We are a union of screenwriters, television writers, and journalists built and sustained on the bedrock belief that bold storytelling, fearless comedy, and unflinching
reporting are indispensable to a free and democratic society. We have always understood that fidelity to those beliefs could lead to attacks from our bosses, from corporate interests, or even from politicians.
Still, we have always understood our role in a healthy democracy.

Now we face an unprecedented, authoritarian assault. In the last few months alone,
President Trump has filed baseless lawsuits against news organizations that have published stories he does not like and leveraged them into payoffs, most notably at Paramount, which settled a meritless lawsuit against 60 Minutes for $16 million. He has retaliated against publications reporting factually on the White House and threatened broadcasters' licenses. He regularly calls for the cancelation of news and entertainment television shows that criticize him in late-night and, most recently, The View.
Alarmingly, the bulk of the federal government has now joined these attacks. Congressional Republicans collaborated to defund the Corporation for Public
Broadcasting in order to silence PBS and NPR.
The FCC openly conditioned its approval of the Skydance-Paramount merger on assurances that CBS would make "significant changes" to the purported ideological viewpoint of its journalism and entertainment programming. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has echoed Trump's threats.

And yet Paramount still asks us to believe that the cancelation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was not about politics or merger approval.
These are un-American attempts to restrict the kinds of stories and jokes that may be told, to silence criticism and dissent.
We don't have a king, we have a president. And the president doesn't get to pick what's on television, in movie theaters, on stage, on our bookshelves, or in the news.
We call on our elected representatives and industry leaders to resist this overreach. We call on our audiences, on every single person ready to fight for a free and democratic future, to raise their voice.
This is certainly not the first time that free speech has come under assault in this country, but free speech remains our right because generation after generation of Americans have dedicated themselves to its protection. Now and always, when writers come under attack, our collective power as a union allows us to fight back. This period in American life will not last forever, and when it's over the world will remember who had the courage to speak out.

MEDIA: Please report on the TX story w/context. Tx law requires redistricting every 10 years after census figures come in. TX did that.

Trump, afraid to lose the midterms told Tx Republicans to find 5 more seats for the House. Meaning gerrymander away 5 Dem seats. The Republicans did it.
