A UK wealth tax sounds simple: "tax the superβrich, fund public services"
But it's not.
Our 16,000 word deepβdive shows revenues are fragile, it puts growth, investment and jobs at risk, and there's no revenue before 2029.

Rachel Reeves: Hero Of The Left
The bond markets barely blinked at a spending review that included a substantial real-term increase for the NHS. Thatβs something the left should c...
I enjoyed this punchy @timleunig.bsky.social article, and I agree with its central argument that Reeves's credibility with the bond markets is essential to the government's ability to pursue any kind of social democratic agenda

What does progressive tech policy look like? In our piece for the @thefabians.bsky.social, @sasjkia.bsky.social and I are optimistic about the UK's future as a tech power - as long as we proceed with a healthy dose of scepticism about the status quo and refuse to abandon our progressive values

London must reassert itself against competition from Paris.

Quality early years provision is a crucial tool to make society more equal and support communities. In my piece for @renewaljournal.bsky.social I talk about why we have to make more than just an economic case for childcare.

βDevastatingβ: Malawi left in dire straits by Trumpβs decision to freeze aid
African nation relies on US and other foreign donors to help fund healthcare projects and schools
The USAID news is painful, especially thinking of the friends I met working in Malawi. As well as the devastating immediate impacts, this decision means job losses for 1000s of hardworking people who'd made careers trying to change their country for the better.
