I’m not fundamentally opposed to Philly fans making some extra $$, but listening to the crowd of Knicks yahoos whoop it up at a Sixers home game is truly sickening.

This is pretty unbelievable. I was trying to explain to my partner the improbability of freaking Indiana becoming a football super power. It’s as if the Washington Generals suddenly won an NBA championship.

I can appreciate the NFL trying to reduce head injuries but the Guardian Caps give serious Talosian.

TGE HOUSEMAID: Under lock-and-key, as it were as to actual reaction, but suffice it to say it’s playing chess when you think it’s throwing pick up sticks.

Um, thats kind of our thing.

Well, I didn’t love it, but it deserved better than it got.

Not a great film to my reckoning, but I believe that description pretty much encapsulates THE CROSSING GUARD.

SIRAT: Excellent use of its desert surroundings, and strikes a suitably hallucinatory vibe at times; but I couldn’t help feeling Laxe started to make one film, got disenchanted early, and pivoted to something else for the crazy hell of it.

Ack, this feels like my future!

RUNNING MAN: Well, it’s a hell of an improvement over the original — which is pure ‘80s cheez whiz — but it bogs down in the third act with plot nonsense. Got to appreciate Wright’s music cues, though, including opening with “Underdog,” and hitting a big action sequence with “Heartbreaker.”

SENTIMENTAL VALUE: Slow-paced drama moves in languid motions but eventually does start adding up into something more engrossing, the layers creating a sense of history. Like ghosts slowly floating over a frozen cornfield. #PFF

A POET: Its manic comic energy propels it, but underneath its sad-sack trappings, there is grace in the suffering, and recognition of the things that pain us so we have no choice but to conjure them in verse and symbolism. #PFF

CALLE MALAGA: Powerhouse performance from Carmen Maura helps cover up some of the film’s weaker elements. Tries for an enigmatic
ending after leaving dinner rolls as breadcrumbs. #PFF

FANTASY LIFE: I badly wanted to walk out on this movie so it could feel some of the misery it was inflicting on me. #PFF

I did! But it’s such a poke in the eye to those kinds of (often fun!) slick con-artist flicks, it had to be pointed out: it’s like falling for a mutt instead of a purebred.
