I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti “We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

Disabled son of ICE detainee dies after 30 days of hospitalization It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.

I should add that due to 70+ people wanting to testify on this issue, *City Council moved the vote to next Wednesday*. So if you are riled up, you can contact your PDX city councilors and encourage them to vote on the ORIGINAL Slow the Inflow!! (I’ll try to find and share taking points!)

SHAME on Councilor Zimmerman for taking critical resources away from tenants and families and unhoused neighbors. SHAME on him for seeking another way to divert public funds into developers’ pockets. Unconscionable man.

People are freezing on our streets NOW. Losing federal housing assistance NOW. The funds in the resolution ORIGINALLY passed out of the Homelessness and Housing Committee would keep people housed and get them into available housing. People don’t have years to wait for a new development to be built.

Ok, great. You don’t have to agree with every representative on council. Like I don’t agree with Dan Ryan. But Sameer represents a popular view in the city, which was my initial point. Anyway, I’m done with this nonlinear argument! I hope you have a nice day.

I would not say I trust government or am enthusiastic about electeds in general. I am pragmatic and hopeful because I know some councilors personally through organizing. I know they are strong on values and accountable to their base. I have experienced how they work in collaboration with community.

Mitch Green has done lots of education in public social media accounts re: social housing and how to pay for it, and Sameer Kanal has shared a lot on what community safety is and means, inclusive of parks and housing and transit. I encourage you to research what they’ve already shared!
