It’s open enrollment at my work. It’s costing me $700/paycheck for health, dental, vision, funding a health savings account at less than my OOP max, and a very modest dependent care account. Just tax us already and give us all single payer health coverage.

Day 1 of the Republican Government Shutdown.

Remember: A Republican is in the White House, and Republicans control both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. They are literally in charge, but incapable at leading. They will try to blame Democrats; don’t fall for it.

Right now, Minneapolis can choose a different story than the one people are telling about us – we can choose to believe in the power of us.

Voting is open now until November 4. I hope you'll rank me first on your ballot because Minneapolis deserves better.

Rep. Angie Craig, a Democratic congresswoman representing a purple district in southern Minnesota and a candidate for U.S. Senate, appeared on the popular podcast "The Bulwark" on Wednesday, chatting with host Tim Miller about everything from Democrats in rural areas and a crunch on farm country, to why she showed up at a crypto summit this summer (hint: the committee she's ranking member on, U.S. House Agriculture, has jurisdiction over digital commodities).
But, my colleague Christopher Vondracek reports, she also sent a message to the chamber she hopes to gain membership to, the U.S. Senate, in a standoff that could lead to a shutdown next week.
"Don't cave. Care more about democracy more than decorum over in the Senate," she said.
Shutdown showdown. It appears Craig is in lockstep on that issue with U.S. Sen. Tina Smith, who appeared alongside clergy at the Minnesota Capitol on Thursday to say she won't be intimidated by the GOP. Republicans control the House and Senate but need a handful of Senate Democrats to vote with them for a continuing resolution to keep the government open. In exchange for their votes, Senate Democrats want to see spending on health care following dramatic Medicaid cuts in the federal

In the Strib politics newsletter, Angie Craig says β€œDon’t cave. Care about democracy more than decorum over in the Senate.” and that sounds nice, but that isn’t Angie Craig’s current MO. I’ve watched her votes, not her quotes, and I don’t think she is up to the task.

At two DFL events over the weekend, U.S. Senate candidate Angie Craig said in her speech β€˜we as democrats oppose taking away due process from undocumented immigrants.’

She voted for the Laken Riley Act, which does precisely that.

I’m watching your votes, not your quotes, Angie. For shame.

Minnesota's Angie Craig Lines Up With Crypto at GOP-Heavy
Conference
In the Minnesota Senate race, centrist Rep.
Angie Craig is facing populist Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. The big campaign event up there is the State Fair, and Craig missed the opening day, apparently to be in Jackson Hole hobnobbing with the crypto crowd. She was the only elected Democrat to speak, and she warmed up the crowd for Eric Trump, who spoke just after her. Tim Scott, the head of the GOP's Senate reelection efforts, made news there by thanking the industry for defeating populist Sherrod Brown in Ohio's 2024 election. (He may now be running again.)
The crypto industry spent nearly $1 million last cycle backing Craig. Flanagan rallied with Sen.
Elizabeth Warren last week, the bane of crypto's existence.

Angie Craig missed the 1st day of the MN State Fair because she was the opening act for Eric Trump at a GOP Crypto-fest. When she made it to the fair she decided to court GOP voters that hate her by bringing cookies to their booth. Wild campaign choices from someone who wants to replace Tina Smith!

My heart is with the parishioners of the church, and the Annunciation students and their families.

This is another tragedy in what was already been a painful period for our state and community. We must all condemn gun violence, and come together to work on real solutions to prevent future tragedy.”

It is different for Hillary Clinton. The rules about what constitutes appropriate language are stricter for women than they are for men.
While people 25 and under tend to expect that both genders should swear frequently, using words of similar offensiveness, people of older generations often still have the idea that swearing is not "ladylike." For example, in 2015, former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee expressed shock at how often people drop the f-bomb out East: "In New York, not only the men do it, but the women do it." Several books about Clinton use this societal attitude to vilify her, portraying her as a foul-mouthed harridan who spews
curses at state troopers, secret service agents, military veterans and innocent staffers trying to fly the American flag. As a female candidate, Clinton already walks a minefield, trying to appear tough and responsible without looking like a word Huckabee would never say.

Also thinking about this, especially this part, and the part about how there are clear double standards for women vs men, and those are compounded if you aren’t white. time.com/4380189/dona...

Didn’t have to wait long to see a car turn onto the tracks, then the sidewalk, then back across the tracks to get to the road. So unsafe for everyone.

My first choice ranking for Mayor goes to whoever will commit to painting the concrete under/around the light rail tracks a bright yellow color so cars stop driving on the tracks. (Does the mayor have input on this? Probably not. Is this still my position? Yes. Do I live in Mpls? No, but if I did!!)

Resident’s plan to build backyard dwelling for homeless family prompts Blaine to rethink rules Blaine allowed accessory dwelling units. But when a resident asked to build one for a homeless family, the City Council hit pause on the idea.

Says a lot about religion, family, and the dearth of freedom in American suburbia that *one family's* religiously motivated plan to build an ADU for people leaving homelessness prompts the city council to deny this request and pause ADU approvals citywide for a year!
