Great Big Green Week has begun!

It’s the UK’s biggest celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. We can all make small swaps, large swaps and swaps that change the system, to make our communities better.

Confirmed: England has second worst harvest on record with fears… Data released shows England experienced it’s second worst harvest since 1983 after record breaking wet weather last winter, with recent downpours leaving many farmers unable to drill crops again

England has had the second worst harvest on record. This is what erratic weather because of a heating climate does. We are genuinely walking into a calamity beyond comprehension. 40 years of ignored warnings. eciu.net/media/press-...

Starmer's best moment as PM And the Powellisation of conservative thought

Have written about Starmer's speech- his best moment yet as PM. He implicitly identified what sits at the heart of this story: the emergence of a common UK/US online right, headed by the radicalised Musk.

It is making extremist, until recently fringe politics mainstream in British conservatism.

Princetown national park visitor centre to close THE POPULAR Dartmoor National Park visitor centre in Princetown is due to close after a funding injection ends in March causing concern the economy of the village will be affected.

Dartmoor visitor centre to close as National Park Authority cannot afford to renew lease from Duchy

National Parks are facing 12% budget cuts - not a great way for Labour to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their creation

& why is Duchy charging at all?

When someone dies or is injured on the city’s roads, survivors and bereaved families are the ones most directly affected. However, it indirectly affects everyone within the city too. The total societal cost of killed and seriously injured casualties in the West Midlands for 2023 was Β£444 million. Road deaths and serious injuries in Birmingham during 2023 account for approximately Β£205 million of the regional costs (almost 50%). The costs are calculated annually based on estimated real costs for lost output, medical and ambulance, police, insurance and damage to property. Currently every fatality is estimated to cost Β£2.4 million, and when a person is seriously injured, Β£271,00015.

A new Birmingham City Council scrutiny report has highlighted the enormous financial burden of road harm, with road casualties costing around Β£205 million in Birmingham EVERY year.

The current status quo is not only unacceptable on a human level but also economically ruinous.

Can't believe Lloyds Bank. We are a community fridge with a treasurers account of Β£1000 donated by the town for running costs. Lloyds are changing it to a 'community' account and now charging Β£4.25 monthly .. a lot on our small budget. Talk about taking the biscuit!
