Because all of us were taught in school and out of school we should budget. That β€œgood” people budget everything.

So when we don’t, we feel bad about it. So tons of people claim they do because they don’t want others to think they are bad people.

Also many people do budget. Not all but many do.

Excellent! Thank you. 😊

As a Canadian who only watches curling during the Olympics, but deeply loves Olympic curling, how should I be feeling about Canada in these Olympics?

β€œHow can I be a better ally to trans people?”

Buy us pizza.

This isn’t a joke. I’m fully serious.

I like some of your ideas, especially the first one. This one I worry about.

I fear it would create the incentive to stall on the first question without answering and then say it’s already been asked.

The reason re-asking simple questions works is it’s obvious they aren’t being answered.

If whatever party can be more anti Trump starts swinging provincial elections, the incentives in Canadian politics are going to get wild.

Because everything they do is a strategic, selfish act they can’t imagine people actually caring about others. They assume everyone must be as selfish as they are and is just lying about concepts like empathy.

It’s is always better in politics to lean into one’s own strengths, not obsesses over areas of weakness.

I wish more political parties realized this.

Many journalists and most govt comms people simply do not know how to do their jobs without Twitter. Their jobs have been basically using it as the primary communication method for a decade and they can’t imagine figuring out a different way.

The divide between how Canadians see the U.S. and how our political/business leaders see them is wild. It’s one of the biggest divides in perspective I have ever seen. Canadians are clear eyed. Our leaders are not.

When I was a CPC staffer we brought in climate experts to speak to caucus and they would mention many different clean tech and options for emissions reduction.

The ONLY thing CPC MPs wanted to hear about was carbon capture because they saw it as a tool to not having to actually change anything.

It seems pretty clear that when people refer to β€œcrime” what they are really speaking about is visible social disorder. Unhoused people sleeping visibly reads as β€œcrime” more than actual crime stats that are less visible.

While removing the town of Slave Lake from the Slave Lake riding does sound dumb, rural ridings are always going to be huge. Saying it is way bigger than the Netherlands is evocative, but meaningless. How many people live there?

Land doesn't vote, people do.

My non-baseball fan wife: β€œSo there’s a chance a Canadian team can win baseball? But do do it they have to beat the best player the game has ever seen? Wtf that’s like a movie!”

I’m in Alberta Canada at a community event with non-political people and I hear parents talk about cancelling Disney Plus over this.

I think this one is really breaking through.

Before World War 1 the area was part of the Ottoman Empire. After the war, and until the creation of Israel it was under British Control as per a League of Nations mandate.

My pet theory: everyone driving the bus right now is from areas like business and finance. They are fundamentally IR Realists. Even if they wouldn't say they are part of that ideological tradition, they are.

Also some everything is gender stuff too around military being strong and masculine.

Has a Canadian political party ever gone from majority to zero in one cycle? PCs still had two. Socreds in BC kept 7 in '91. I cannot think of any.

That is incredible.

Agreed. Our constitution in Canada is literally nearly impossible to amend. U.S. is bad but ours in worse in terms of being able to change it.

Oh ya. Nordics are not great for trans people. Spain is much better.

Even with the backsliding here in Alberta, Canada is likely the best country in the world to be a trans person, or LGBTQ in general.

β€œGreat nation on earth”? Questionable. But β€œgreatest” on some important things, certainly.

The number of Liberal partisans on here saying that taxing huge American tech companies is bad actually for some reason is truly wild.

Tax them more.

I wish I could like this 100 times. I have found myself watching groups of people walking to churches or mosques near me and feeling intense longing for that.

On the left we seem to have thought the internet could replace it but it’s not the same and I hope we can fix this.

Yes. Neighborhood haves leagues which are community groups partially funded by the city. Many have halls and they run events and stuff like that.

Edmonton fits in the β€œI don’t want to die” area.

24.06.2025 18:02 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Still lots of people here in Edmonton fighting to claw back the gains we have made. The battle is never done.

I’m on the board of my community league. A league right next to U of A. A homeowner told me recently the neighbourhood can change when they are dead. Not until then.

There are obviously some red lines like LGBTQ rights, but I would vote for whoever says β€˜let’s build all the trains.’

Will, we disagree on a ton. But fuck me, I’m not going to jettison any trans allies in this fight.

You have a platform and are using it to help people like me in the USA. Thank you.

These people will never recover from entering a space where they found out they weren’t the progressive champions they imagined themselves to be. They will forever live in 2017 Twitter.

Attention. They need attention. Carney is sucking up all the oxygen and so the only way they know how to get any attention is to be ridiculous.
