Grundsätzlich geht es mir um die Frage, wie man mit der Ungewissheit der Pathogenität zu Beginn einer Pandemie umgeht, nach welchen Kriterien man ohne klinische Beobachtung zu einer Beurteilung der Relevanz kommen kann. Im Vor-PCR-Zeitalter hat sich die Frage ja gar nicht gestellt.

Gedankenexperiment: Durch Zufall wird spillover entdeckt, großer Ausbruch, z.B. ein unbekanntes Lymphocryptovirus (DNA-Virus, kann persistieren, befällt B-Zellen, hochansteckend). Infizierte sind alle asymptomatisch, wäre ohne moderne Molekuladiagnostik nicht aufgefallen.
