Ofelia Torres, teen who fought to have her father released from ICE custody, dies from rare cancer Ofelia Torres, 16, died on Friday from Stage 4 alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, her father's lawyer confirmed.

A child dying of cancer spent her final days fighting to free her wrongfully detained father from ICE custody.
ย
This comes just weeks after a mother from Maryland was denied the right to be at her sonโ€™s side as he died from cancer.

Not one dime for this cruelty.

Let's be done with the "if there even *IS* an election" gotcha. We know. The thought has occurred to all of us. It's unhelpful. I'm going to continue behaving as if I'm not powerlessโ€”as if totalitarianism isn't inevitable. Because it's not, and I'm not.

Good to see that many Dem elected officials now want to be seen getting involved in the cases of immigrants who have been wrongly detained by ICE.

Let's spare a word for @vanhollen.senate.gov, who did this for Kilmar Abrego Garcia back when wise pundits said this was politically dangerous.

This is a good example of how other countries (justifiably) misunderstand the scope and scale of U.S. politics and as a country. The very things that make our system (lamentably) immune to popular opinion also protect elections bc the system is so unwieldy and convoluted.

It's time once again to remind my fellow Americans that there is no mechanism whereby state run elections can be suspended or canceled by the federal government. None. So don't go along with any garbage you hear to that effect. Laugh, and get ready to vote.

ICE pepper sprayed 1 year old gil

ICE pepper-sprayed this 1-year-old girl.

Once at the hospital, the doctor had to call in a poison control specialist.

They had never seen anyone that young pepper sprayed.

Another horrific story.

Global Approaches to Abortion as Health Care - O'Neill The Oโ€™Neill Institute believes that the law is a fundamental tool for solving critical health problems.

By characterizing abortion as health care, international orgs have pushed back against abortion exceptionalism. The World Health Organization recognizes that โ€œ[a]bortion is a simple health care intervention.โ€ Numerous countries have adopted laws and policies to align with WHO recommendations.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where heโ€™s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing itโ€™s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. Itโ€™s about peopleโ€™s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

It got drowned out in all the good news from last night, but Boston Mayor Michelle Wu became the youngest person to be reelected in the city's history.

She ran unopposed because her opponent--Patriots owner Bob Kraft's son--withdrew a few months ago after realizing he had no hope of winning.
