The wild thing is that this is 100% not how I read at all. Not even a little bit. The letters are *how* I know what the word says! Contextual guessing would not only slow things down, I would lose accuracy. Yes one can interpret misspelled words, and USE context, but that isn’t the core skill.

The strangest thing about the 3-cue theories is that it’s obvious to me that it’s not how I read. At all. It never was! These are techniques I never, ever used for regular reading and I bet most of the teachers involved never used either.
