The first 40 days of Winter 2023-24 were just about as cold as this winter has been so far. However, given back-to-back 9.7% rate increases in April 2024 and April 2025, you'll pay around 20% more for the same amount of electricity as you used two years ago.

Everything else being equal, between a winter that's been 17% colder than last year, and a 9.7% rate increase on 1 Apr 2025, you can expect your power bill to increase around 28% so far this winter.

The HDD system doesn't just measure the coldest temperature any given day, it measures the temperature every hour. A day where the low temperature is -25°C but warms up to -10°C in the day would have fewer HDD than a day where the temp is -18°C all day and night long.
