11.08.2025 19:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this dc situation looks pretty horrible. i wish i had more to say except that autocracy is always mundane and petty and vicious and encourages you to look away and be safe. and you can live quite normally under it until you're a direct target
11.08.2025 17:41 β π 3738 π 962 π¬ 46 π 21Yeah, blocked. Thx.
11.08.2025 17:55 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yes - that is the state of discourse today. Also it's either necessary to read Heinlein, Clarke and Asimov or it's evil to ask people to read any old books under any circumstances.
11.08.2025 17:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I found the person who thinks public defenders should rat their clients out to vigilantes on Bluesky and blocked her promptly. Let her scream into an empty void.
11.08.2025 17:36 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Used to only see that blend of worldly ignorance and puritanucal absolutism in a D&D game where your friend plays the Paladin wrong
11.08.2025 17:27 β π 9 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0I kind of need everybody to go and watch the play Rhinoceros by EugΓ¨ne Ionesco real quick. It's getting rather urgent.

If these people have bluesky accounts I would like to block them and remain ignorant of such idiocy.

* Movies
* Listening to podcasts
* Gardening / animal husbandry
* Editing Wikipedia
* Playing TTRPGS
* Playing board games
* Playing video games

I finally got around to the first episode of the streaming adaptation of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell - a book I absolutely adored - about a week ago.

11.08.2025 15:57 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love how my cat announces himself when he wants a pat.\
He'll stand behind my office chair and give a single short "meow" before walking around to the side so I can reach him. So polite.
the GPT-5 backlash is spooking him, he hasn't been able to spin it the way he's used to

11.08.2025 15:34 β π 15 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Except these people appear to be serious with their delusion that the confirmation machine that exists to repeat back to them what they want to hear has a soul.
11.08.2025 15:19 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0IT'S A FUCKING BOT.
This reminds me of the joke in Community where Jeff names a pencil, snaps it, and upsets Annie because the pencil had a name.
The phrase β parents have a legitimate concern about integration of races in schools and as a party, we havenβt done a very good job of listening to those concerns.β would shock and offend I would hope. A similar statement about trans kids should also shock and offend.

11.08.2025 14:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Real "play stupid games win stupid prizes" energy here.
11.08.2025 13:53 β π 6 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Exactly. Like is Lovecraft hella problematic? Yeah. Do you kind of have to read him anyway to understand the history of 20th century American fiction? Yeah. I put him together with people like Fitzgerald and Salinger in significance and I'm not joking.
11.08.2025 13:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Standard Heinlein experience.
11.08.2025 13:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Heinlein would be best forgotten by history. The only good thing to come from his career was the Verhoeven adaptation of Starship Troopers. I read Stranger in a Strange Land and I hated it.
11.08.2025 13:37 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm just saying that Asimov is kind of B-tier when it comes to historical significance. He's a follow-after for van Vogt who didn't carry things as far as Zelazny or Delaney. He's a writer from the middle.
11.08.2025 13:35 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I do think people should read historically significant fiction both within and outside of the genres they prefer and am a strong supporter of reading outside your comfort zone. And I've read literally every author I've named here.
So don't misconstrue my words and say I'm saying "do not read Asimov"
Clarke, Asimov and Heinlein share one thing in common: they were read by Baby Boomers when they were children. That isn't that significant a milestone except demographically.
