Finally getting around to watching Chernobyl, which is great because nothing stressful is happening in the world right now!

Great breakdown of the arguments today, and I always appreciate some measured optimism

This is a big deal especially for folks here in the south. I’ll definitely catch up on the arguments once I get out of court.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how much I want to stay on top of the news right now. I feel an obligation to know what’s going on but a strong desire to tune everything out.

I think my plan will be to read what I see on Bluesky but otherwise just keep up with CJ issues.

Others have defended Biden’s pardon on the grounds that the charges Hunter faced were rarely brought and likely politically motivated.

If that’s an appropriate reason for a pardon, then Biden should be pardoning others whose prosecutions fit that description as well, not just his son.

Hunter's pardon better be the first of a huge flurry of commutations. There are so many cases even more deserving than this one that the Pardon Attorney has recommended granting, and they're just waiting for Biden's signature. It would be inexcusable to see injustice only when it's a family member.

There are now 40 men on federal death row. You promised to end the death penalty but haven’t even issued a single clemency.

60 members of Congress are calling for it. When are their clemencies coming?

Trump is poised to abuse the pardon power more than any president in history. Biden just undermined that objection. Democrats are going to lose the plot reflexively defending him or engaging in whataboutism.

For a party that wants to claim that it cares about institutions and the rule of law, this is a startling move.

One issue I had with Threads was that most of the discourse was about being on Threads/hating Twitter. There is some of that here but much more substantive conversation.
