Borscht will use all of those ingredients, though not in those proportions.

If they deliberately set out to make sure we had a massive doctor and nurse shortage, they could not do better than they are now between this and the new student loan rules and the immigration restrictions.

Maaaybe, and I'm just spitballing here, people wear comfy clothes to fly because there's a non-trivial chance they'll be sleeping on an airport floor at some point in their trips thanks to our wonderful air travel system.

It's a lot harder to sleep on an airport floor when you're wearing business attire.

Coincidentally, back when people dressed up to fly, planes were largely on time and much more comfortable.

Oh my god, this has so much potential.

"Who can make the best movie about a clown in Auschwitz, Jerry Lewis or Elon Musk?"

"Who's a better smurf, Papa Smurf or Elon Musk?"

And so on.

If you're wondering why a large chunk of ostensibly left-of-center pundits are waging war on environmental protections in the form of an "abundance agenda," it's because Silicon Valley has quietly developed a culture of rampant pollution.

I think he's genuinely getting more disinhibited, but it's also the case that he's learned through copious experience that he doesn't have to bother with any type of plausible deniability because the media will just do it for him.

GlÀßel and Scharpf pointed to three mechanisms that reshape career incentives: purges, the erosion of legitimate accountability mechanisms, and signals of impunity for loyalists. These patterns that are clearly emerging in agencies like the FBI, and mirror other authoritarian settings they have studied. Once an agency is corrupted:

officers hope that the regime will reward them for shouldering the burden of the regime’s dirty work. The rationale is simple: extreme loyalty and repressive commitment offer a path to advancement otherwise unavailable to them.

I don’t want to claim that American national security has become equivalent to the Argentinian secret police. But I do think the dynamics to create an unaccountable and abusive coercive national security infrastructure are falling into place and we need to acknowledge and reverse this while we can.

Technically they didn't even stand up, since the vote happened after Trump gave his blessing to voting yes!

It probably would have passed anyway, but not been a stampede. "GOP Representatives break with Trump by voting Yes after Trump gave his blessing" is not a story of courageous rebellion!

1/ Today, ProPublica is running a piece I've been working on for a bit. It's about what happened with a devastating wave of bird flu earlier this year, as egg prices hit record highs.

And it's a story that illuminates the ways the U.S. is failing to control what could become the next pandemic. 🧡

I expect the Supreme Court to ride in and save the Texas GOP from itself with another corrupt ruling, but it would indeed be highly hilarious if the result of these GOP shenanigans were that Texas didn't get to redistrict and CA and NY and VA did.

That plus their silence on the "piggy" thing shows that they are all keeping their heads down and hoping they're not next while continuing to participate in this farce. Historically that has not been a winning strategy!

Friends,
I never ask people to retweet/reskeet something I've posted, but this is REALLY important to me and to a lot of dedicated, hardworking people who've been shit on over and over again for the last 10 months.
PLEASE reskeet this and PLEASE call your Senators and Representatives.

This is where the media gaslighting is particularly insidious--they simply won't treat him like most of the things he's doing are unpopular--and where the tariffs were such a self-own, since they will cover rising consumer prices, especially food.

Once the tipping point is reached, it'll be crazy.

My guess is he knows the fix is in in the Senate, so he feels he can safely come out for the House vote, maintaining the pretense that it's up to Congress, which the media will go along with. If votes do go through, can't release those files while there's an ongoing investigation (which he ordered).
