My guess it's because the hardship and unrest and instability in Iran is largely America's doing. A common strategy really, foment and create the conditions for a grass roots revolt as justification for military intervention. Maybe it'll happen in Alberta next.

And a humbling lesson that so many European agencies were skeptical about U.S.'s alarm and intelligence because of Iraq, and their general wariness of being pawns in U.S.'s foreign policy machinations.

What's really weird is that his argument for carrying a gun in the face of authoritarianism is somehow precipitated and bolstered by a man being killed by authoritarians because he was carrying one. The gun that Harper carries will never save him just as Pretti's didn't. Such fantasies never happen.

I always assumed that most of them never abandoned Twitter simply because of the following they'd amassed but yes, maybe there's also the sense that they'd be more vulnerable on the quality of their takes in an environment that isn't so reductively just Nazi vs non-Nazi.

Once again, since it's apparently a hard concept to grasp, if all of those non-voters had been forced to vote there is no basis to assume that the outcome would have been any different. Regardless, only those who actually do vote can claim to comprise "the country" in the electoral sense.

People keep throwing out the 32% number, but since we can only assume that those who vote are generally representative of the population at large, basically half of Americans chose the guy three times in a row.

Yes it's possible that his tariff plan will somehow be stimied but let us not discount the (ongoing) extraordinary circumstance of the American President standing there and saying what he said. People continue to mistake atrocity for absurdity. There is a deep deep psychic wound in the country.

America's been done for for a while now. That's the problem with living through history, you can't contextualize it until it's passed. But a casual yet astute observer would have recognized that the American people simply choosing a man like Trump as a resounding moral and rational death knell.
