I’m thinking of the 3:16 signage. Jesus probably spoke a lot in parables about unfairness and had little interest in his place in the eschatological order, if you rely on the word of contemporaries. But Paul was uninterested in those teachings and he was of the period. And they never met. Wild.

That’s interesting. Scholarship doesn’t know what to do with John from what I recall. He’s kind preoccupied with esoteric notions. Not very much narrative. So it is kind of bizarre that the religious right has such a preference for him. He’s not very interested in history.
