You searched for yerbury – HOPE not hate

I think the guy on the left is Alek Yerbury, who is an active fascist agitator.

I can recommend @aptshadow.bsky.social's Tyrant Philosophers series. I've been racing through them and thoroughly enjoying myself, and they're somewhat discworldy (although serious rather than satirical).

You could also write wrapper functions for the DBI functions which open and close the connection, along the lines of this. read_duckdb <- function(q) {
con <-dbConnect(...)
on.exit(dbDisconnect(con))
dbGetQuery(q)
}

readcsvs: A single function #Rstats package that reads and combines multiple CSV files into a single data frame using #DuckDB for efficient parallel processing.

Left is a table, right is a figure. Left has headers, information is primarily text/numeric. Right's information is primarily visual - I view it as 2 faceted plots with the headers as titles and the text as captions.

Yeah, I couldn't find a nice explanation for how {systemfonts} works with Google Fonts. I will probably stick with {showtext} for now.

font_add_google("Urbanist", "sans-serif")
font_add_google("Courier Prime", "monospace")
font_add_google("Indie Flower", "handwriting")

library(ggplot2)

    geom_bar() +
    labs(
        title = "Urbanist sans serif",
        subtitle = "Courier Prime monospace",

I like {showtext}. Here's the section from my person cheatsheet (code in alt text).

Another version of an FT chart made using ggplot in R.

Another version of an FT chart made using ggplot in R.

Figured out a nicer way of doing it, using the existing clip = "off" in coord_cartesian() and multiple new lines before the title, you can use the defaults labs() for title and subtitle without resorting to annotation or label layers.

I found the focus on safeguarding in the police station in the first episode oddly touching, and quite true to life. It made me feel a little proud in a strange way - the way a society treats young people is quite revealing of its values.
