09.01.2026 15:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Pretty sure this footage is from Fires of Kuwait (1992), which is on youtube and is a great documentary: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tUz...
09.01.2026 15:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I can recommend @aptshadow.bsky.social's Tyrant Philosophers series. I've been racing through them and thoroughly enjoying myself, and they're somewhat discworldy (although serious rather than satirical).
02.01.2026 20:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I quite like going by starting frequency:

con <-dbConnect(...)
on.exit(dbDisconnect(con))
dbGetQuery(q)
}
delete this before the italians wake up

This is my first attempt hosting a package on GitHub - constructive criticism welcome!

11.11.2025 15:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Left is a table, right is a figure. Left has headers, information is primarily text/numeric. Right's information is primarily visual - I view it as 2 faceted plots with the headers as titles and the text as captions.

09.07.2025 14:54 β π 159 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, I couldn't find a nice explanation for how {systemfonts} works with Google Fonts. I will probably stick with {showtext} for now.

I like {showtext}. Here's the section from my person cheatsheet (code in alt text).

14.04.2025 22:01 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another version of an FT chart made using ggplot in R.
Figured out a nicer way of doing it, using the existing clip = "off" in coord_cartesian() and multiple new lines before the title, you can use the defaults labs() for title and subtitle without resorting to annotation or label layers.

Not quite the right data, and I didn't change the fonts but this is pretty close.

I found the focus on safeguarding in the police station in the first episode oddly touching, and quite true to life. It made me feel a little proud in a strange way - the way a society treats young people is quite revealing of its values.
