05.11.2025 08:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 01. In the wake on Mamdaniβs win, weβll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Hereβs a thread on its roots and evolution.
The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. π§΅
Fuck man, ten years ago, I'd be morning drinking watching the various results come in, with three monitors in front of me. π΄

05.11.2025 02:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I suppose the solution is to not look at any content that is professionally relevant close to working out time π¬
05.11.2025 00:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's an inevitable fact of life, that 10 mins before I intend to start working out, I see something like this, and feel compelled to sit down and draft a note about it.

03.11.2025 21:05 β π 4414 π 594 π¬ 119 π 63Teen Vogue took young people seriously. It's impossible to overstate how important, how rare, and how profoundly needed that is.
03.11.2025 20:33 β π 5511 π 1163 π¬ 26 π 20appalling to think that on the day in between lex posting this and the election, condΓ© nast was like, βyeah, todayβs the day to cut that.β
03.11.2025 21:23 β π 475 π 91 π¬ 5 π 4This is a fucking shame. Teen Vogue was consistently producing some of the best political commentary in America.
03.11.2025 22:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The focus on 'quality' is a red herring. The real limiting factor is that the potential audience of paying subscribers is too small to build a sustainable business. This is why these ventures will remain passion projects, not scalable businesses.
03.11.2025 11:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A common misconception behind the attempts to create paywalled digital news & commentary in LK is that content quality was the limiting factor. I've been approached to invest in or contribute to such projects for over a decade, and I've always refused, believing the real problem lies elsewhere.
03.11.2025 11:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A flawed album, but still enjoyable in the way it has all the psychedelic trappings, but also being heavy as fuck.

It's over. So glad the Jays got their chip because no one is stopping this demon.
31.10.2025 03:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Your face was long and thin and sad. I thought you might have been beautiful onceβ fragile things are always a little beautiful but somewhere along the way you'd been broken badly and poorly mended. Now your skin hung like old laundry from the sharp bones of your cheeks, and your jaw was roughly stubbled. It was the face of an ascetic or a madmanβ who else would wear tiny panes of glass beneath their brows, like the windows of a fairy's church?βbut your eyes were black and lucid. I waited for those eyes to fill with terror, but they didn't. (They never did.)
'The Everlasting' came dangerously close to romantasy for me, but clearly was dealing with very big ideas, the romance was tinged with just the right amounts of tragedy, and the writing, more lyrical than saccharine.
31.10.2025 03:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fascinated by the thought that the two best fantasy novels I read recently have been transgressive spins on Arthurian legend. This book and Lev Grossman's 'The Bright Sword' (published 2024).

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldnβt be able to publish anything by them at all, and βwe need them for intellectual diversity.β
30.10.2025 22:38 β π 5517 π 1849 π¬ 115 π 145I thought you were the saddest and most beautiful thing I had ever seen, like a dead angel. I looked for a long time at the bright line of the sword along your sternum, at the solemn shape of your mouth. I looked at you for so long and so well that I felt something inside me shifting, irrevocably It was like dying or being born, or being hit very hard on the head. It was like falling in love. (This was another thing I would only realize when I was much older.)
Another day, another moment in time, this may not have got me, but right now, it did.
