The rule is obviously designed to enable VA to deny benefits. Imagine the evaluations "oh you feel a little better on Lexapro? Benefits denied". But maybe the person is no longer suicidal, but still not functional. It allows for great mischief in the process. Experience with insurance tells us this.

One problem is that antidepressants can work a little, a lot, or not at all. So just because you are taking them doesn't mean you are not struggling or even "disabled".
