I have watched as so-called "compromise" positions on transgender people's rights have failed over and over--in statehouses, the Biden White House, and in liberal rhetoric. There is no middle ground acceptable to the politicians, activists, and billionaires obsessed with trans people and our lives.

Please understand that people will not be "going without SNAP/EBT/food stamps" - people will be going without FOOD.

Actually and literally.

The reason 42 million Americans are on SNAP is because employers aren’t paying living wages.

Genuinely delighted to download a PhD thesis from a university repository where the author has neglected to remove the words "BITCH THIS IS YOUR THESIS" from the filename.

If SNAP benefits vanished tomorrow, feeding 42 million Americans for a month would cost about $7.8 billion. That’s less than 1% of the combined net worth of the three richest men in the U.S. A reminder of how obscene inequality has become and how easily hunger could be solved if we chose to.

Research Is the U. of Chicago’s Lifeblood. Its Board Is Killing It. A great university could be reduced to a shell of its former self.

Opinion: A fiscal crisis at Chicago is putting the university's noblest legacy in peril.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

New York Times article reads: "Mr. Zhao had pleaded guilty to money-laundering violations in 2023 and served four months in federal prison, after a yearslong investigation by financial regulators and U.S. prosecutors.

β€œPresident Trump exercised his constitutional authority by issuing a pardon for Mr. Zhao, who was prosecuted by the Biden administration in their war on cryptocurrency,” Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said in a statement on Thursday. β€œThe Biden administration’s war on crypto is over.”

The pardon was the latest example of how high-profile business partners of Mr. Trump and his family have benefited from his rollback of the wide-ranging crypto crackdown orchestrated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. To seek the pardon, Mr. Zhao hired lawyers and lobbyists with ties to the Trump administration, while Binance struck a business deal with World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s crypto start-up."

🚨BREAKING: The State of Arizona filed a lawsuit accusing House Speaker Mike Johnson of violating the Constitution by refusing to swear in Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva. The plaintiffs argue that Johnson’s delay has deprived hundreds of thousands of Arizonans of representation.

The Epstein Files must be the most nightmare shit ever if they're willing to do this. And I think Swalwell wasn't lying when he said there would be a huge defection if the vote hit the floor. Absolutely no other reason to do this. None at all.

2025 Study section tracking

Been a rough year for federally funded scientists, and I hate to add another tab to this spreadsheet. So far, the shutdown has resulted in cancellation of 161 CSR study sections. πŸ§ͺhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lLEx14q7HKrlYahQYJaN6aHKpMqSMJwX4aenyL5g_ZU/edit?usp=sharing

Not only does it help the folks who are hired through those ads, it's great for getting accurate market rates for salaries in the field. (I find it hard to get useful data from salary surveys.) I work in a women-dominated support role in academia, which makes salary advocacy INCREDIBLY important.

In my work with my professional organizations, one of the things I'm proudest of doing is setting an expectation that all job ads posted on one of our listhosts will include salary ranges. If you manage a job board or listhost where this isn't currently an expectation, consider making it one.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

It’s Day 21 of the GOP shutdown.

While families see their health care costs double or even triple, Republicans are on vacation.

By refusing to work with Democrats, they’re refusing to work for the American people.
