We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?

What Gutting USAID Means for My Young Patients in Burundi β€œTo my patients and their mothers, I offered apologies from the American people,” writes Dr. Jennifer Furin.

This is a gut-wrenching, beautifully written essay. A doctor must watch helplessly as children die because USAID's freeze on aid has limited access to nutritional supplements. time.com/7258248/us-f...

Project For Awesome 2025

FYI: You might know me as any number of things, but one of the things I am is a YouTuber who has been running a yearly charity event since 2007. That’s going to become apparent on my bsky feed over the next four or five days.

You can learn more about it at projectforawesome.com.

A diverse flight crew of a gay guy, a Black man, and a woman

A gay guy, a Black man, and a woman walk into a flight deckβ€” that’s not the beginning of a joke, but just a regular day at work! There was so much DEI on this plane that we could hardly get in the air. Luckily my limp wrists were able to wrestle the heavy jet back to the ground πŸ’…πŸΌ

The lack of gynecological care for homebound people with uteruses is abysmal. I haven't had a smear test for 5 years because they won't provide them during a home visit. On my record it says I have refused them.

Disability benefits cuts will be 'devastating' and 'increase poverty', Labour told Labour has pledged to slash to cut the disability benefits bill, even after a High Court ruling found a consultation to be unlawful.

Disability benefits need at least doubling, not cutting, if Labour wants more people back in work any time soon - because NHS is not there for us and we're having to self fund and treat ourselves.

I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.

January is not the month for resolutions. We’re all sick, exhausted, cold, broke, depressed and back at work against our will. January *is* the month for outrageous Victorian self-care rituals, because who needs a new gym membership when you can just take a good turn about the room for your agonies.

DWP spent Β£50,000 trying to stop release of review into disabled man’s death Previous government spent almost Β£1m trying to prevent release of documents in 56 legal cases

Writing about Errol Graham - who starved to death in 2018 - always stayed with me. That the Tories spent Β£50,000 trying to stop the release of a review into his death is sickening. There’s money to hide the truth but none to help a disabled man eat.

A lady I worked for in 2020, and had cerebral palsy, came home from a trip to our local NHS hospital, with a copy of a DNR for her GP. It was never discussed with her, myself as her carer, or her family. Was she at risk of dying? No, she went in with constipation!

Apparently HM Government appears to think autism & ADHD are β€œlight” SEN conditions. (FT interview).

I wonder if they have read the NHS long term plan, the suicide prevention plan, the suicide rate, the SEN exclusion rate, the prison population…

Asking for someone to explain!

Closure of northern Minnesota camp is β€˜the greatest story.’ Here’s why. Willow River, Minn., camp One Heartland is for sale after serving kids there for nearly three decades.

After nearly three decades, a Minnesota summer camp for kids with HIV/AIDS is closing and up for sale... because retroviral drugs are so effective that there aren't enough campers.

Science works, y'all.

French village of Mazan torn apart by horror of mass rape trial Fifty-one men are on trial in France for raping a woman drugged by her husband in the village of Mazan.

The Mayor of Mazan (the French town where Gisele Pelicot was assaulted) said that it could have been worse and β€œat least no one was killed & she wasn’t conscious”

I don’t understand why men continue to downplay the horrors that happened

Do NOT tell the victim of mass rape it β€œcould be worse”
