Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

I'm looking to see not only which Senate Dem candidates oppose this surrender (all of them will) but also where they go beyond this with respect to senate leadership.

I want to see concrete promises for a new fighting Dem Party, because the current one is broken.

This tracks.

That will be precisely why they did it.

Since they clearly cannot lead, they must now get out of the way.

It's a bit like the Democrats are playing the role of the Washington Generals, the team that "plays" against the Harlem Globetrotters. They're just there for token opposition, not any real challenge.

The status quo is fine for rich people, irrespective of political outlook.

Couldn't even manage a week of feeling positive.

I predicted this months ago. It's turned out badly everywhere it's been implemented. How about actually regulating the companies, and not the public?

On our campus (a medical school sub-campus of the University) we have had some success in redirecting a portion of indirect funding to fellowships for research staff... but as far as I know, this is the exception here in New Zealand.

We've been fighting against our overheads being dumped into the general fund for decades, with no success. My late boss used to walk around our offices waving his arms and say "Does this look like a quarter of a million dollars a year in accommodation to you?"
