"Just making s**t up" — David Roberts sounds off on the EPA
"To say members of Congress didn’t anticipate a specific pollutant is just f**king comical."
"To allege that interpreting the Clean Air Act in an open-ended way is some sort of violation of law is ridiculous. I don’t think anybody involved here is confused about the legal merits. Everybody on the right knows that they’re playing Calvinball here and that this is all bullshit." — @volts.wtf

The fact that these sentences always end with "... which we will cram with more work for them" and not "... so we moved to a four-day workweek" really illustrate the hollowness of some AI evangelists' promises that AI will deliver us to some kind of post-work utopia.

If you are wondering what words the all-male Congress found so "blasphemous" that they felt compelled to literally scrape them off the monument, they were: ''Woman, first denied a soul, then called mindless, now arisen, declared herself an entity to be reckoned.''

Christopher Mathias on the administration's racist and white nationalist rhetoric: DHS, on New Year's Eve, posted the word re-migration. I saw the word arrive on America's shores about ten years ago, and it was in the private chats of Nazi groups. Now it's on the White House's official account.

Salesforce sent emails informing employees who left its company kickoff event Tuesday after CEO Marc Benioff made several tone-deaf jokes about ICE that "your absence was noted" during subsequent presentations and gave them a 250-character field to explain themselves, according to Business Insider.
They think they don't need employees anymore and they're determined to find out for sure

It's also part of a very direct negation of the latest stupid tweet by Musk: people have given so much, two of them their lives, to defend a multicultural city and the rights of people not exactly like them. And that multiculturalism is American culture.

One thing I think abt a lot: Just imagine how well the economy would be doing if Trump hadn’t spent all of last year trashing the great economy he inherited? Tariffs, huge govt layoffs, slashing research/medical/science spending, torturing US cities with immigration raids. Economy would be humming!

O'Keefe to Homan: "2 agents now on leave bc video evidence shows sworn testimony appears to be untruthful. DHS initially said officer who shot the migrant was being ambushed. Combine that w/ 2 deadly shootings & a Chicago incident where evidence contradicted govt - does this undermine trust in ICE?"

The Trumpists like to present themselves as defenders of the West.
There is one country fighting against brutality and barbarism, and in defense of everything we cherish about the West: Ukraine.
The Trumpists are hostile to Ukraine.
The Trumpists are betrayers of the West.

This take is always delusional. I’ll put it plainly. Obama’s existence was divisive because he was Black. He triggered a racist backlash. He was unifying in his rhetoric, constantly appealing to our better angels.
This is a deflection from Trump, who uses division as a tactic.

Maryland health officials are warning about an uptick in cases of mumps.
Measles is a bellwether. Because it’s the most contagious vaccine-preventable disease, when vaccination rates drop, it’s the first to start spreading.
Now we’ve got mumps rolling up.
Expect more.

ICE Tried to Justify a Minneapolis Shooting. Its Story Unraveled.
When an immigration agent shot Julio C. Sosa-Celis in the leg in Minneapolis, touching off hours of tense protests, the Trump administration rushed to sell a version of events that demonized the wounded man and defended the agent.
by Friday, it had fully unraveled.

Trump's DHS is not a traditional Cabinet agency, a part of the U.S. government established and constrained by laws, regulations, and court rulings.
DHS is now an arm of Trump and MAGA, used against citizens the administration disfavors.
