congrats to all the liberals calling the attacks on trans people in the U.S. "tragic but inconsequential since there aren't all that many of them" for finally finding out what they'd have done in 1930s germany

I don’t know if Herbert intended it this way but I think he’s trying to show a plot equivalent to the objective correlative concept for character’s emotions.

Yes, but also… some of the book is meant to play with the impacts of seeing the future, but imperfectly. And seeing how different characters act with partial information.

The lulz.
I hope the 32-bit build agent for Power BI Desktop gets retired with gusto come July 2025.

There are a crazy amount of protocol drivers and such in there, so guessing some DB’s ODBC/JDBC/etc. got bigger.

Costs of Relationships in DAX - SQLBI The relationships in a data model queried by DAX are a fundamental part of the engine and simplify the query itself. This article examines the cost of relat

The simple version is public, that book has way more details than other sources.
This blog post covers implementation nuances and touches a bit on the internals:

Forgot to point out this doesn’t apply for CCI in SQL Server or Synapse, just the read heavy analytics focused implementations of VertiPaq.

Another thing to note is that VertiPaq handles joins through pre-computed hashmaps (called relationships) that are rebuilt anytime a table in the join changes. The hashmap sits in the CPU cache and this avoids regular join perf concerns. Another read-focused design choice.

At least it vaguely means something, unlike the advertising world madness of calling adtech β€œprogrammatic”some years back.

Our institutions failed, our leaders failed, our laws failed, but ultimately there's no denying it: the American people failed, and those who voted for this are every bit as culpable as the man himself, now and forever.

It's OK to be disgusted and horrified by them. We should be, and tell them so.

I welcome the many improvements to the tech stack… describing architectures settled before I was born as new concepts less so.

I presume this another feature that a very large customer insisted was absolutely vital to their adoption and without which they wouldn’t use Power BI.
Or is used internally by the service for some reason and they released it publicly because why not.

Without alignment from the new acquisition’s internal DNS team we simply can’t determine an enterprise standard for server names or tags.
