I had breakfast with former coworkers and we all discussed work for an hour. The things we are frustrated with and spend time discussing are 90% organizational and human issues. Not technical tooling. All conferences are the inverse. I wish there was a tech conf focused less on tooling.

It’s pretty nice, and you can use PowerShell to call it, but don’t because omg the escape characters become hell on desktop.

congrats to all the liberals calling the attacks on trans people in the U.S. "tragic but inconsequential since there aren't all that many of them" for finally finding out what they'd have done in 1930s germany

I don’t know if Herbert intended it this way but I think he’s trying to show a plot equivalent to the objective correlative concept for character’s emotions.

Yes, but also… some of the book is meant to play with the impacts of seeing the future, but imperfectly. And seeing how different characters act with partial information.

There are a crazy amount of protocol drivers and such in there, so guessing some DB’s ODBC/JDBC/etc. got bigger.

Costs of Relationships in DAX - SQLBI The relationships in a data model queried by DAX are a fundamental part of the engine and simplify the query itself. This article examines the cost of relat

The simple version is public, that book has way more details than other sources.
This blog post covers implementation nuances and touches a bit on the internals:

Forgot to point out this doesn’t apply for CCI in SQL Server or Synapse, just the read heavy analytics focused implementations of VertiPaq.

29.01.2025 14:17 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Another thing to note is that VertiPaq handles joins through pre-computed hashmaps (called relationships) that are rebuilt anytime a table in the join changes. The hashmap sits in the CPU cache and this avoids regular join perf concerns. Another read-focused design choice.
