Tonights #geogchat - How do you engage students in place knowledge when there is so much content to cover?

We also verbalise each lesson how this links to past learning and future learning, and within each SOW we link the knowledge and skills to different careers so they see its value.

I have planned our KS3 Geography curriculum to take students on a "journey around the world" and students have really grasped onto this thread that links all of our topics together. We also revisit some more difficult concepts through studying different places in KS3, so they can link their learning

Ultimately, curriculum coherence is about making geography meaningful. Pupils should sense the β€œwhy” behind each topic. When they can connect Year 7 map skills to Year 13 global challenges, that’s when real understanding lights up. #geogchat

At KS4, I emphasise making links back to KS3 case studies, encouraging pupils to compare and critique earlier work. Revisiting prior knowledge gives them a sense of progression and affirms that geography is cumulative, not compartmentalised. #geogchat

Kicking off #geogchat on Curriculum Coherence! How do we ensure smooth progression from KS3 to KS5 without gaps or mind-numbing repetition? Share your best strategiesβ€”let’s spark some fresh thinking together.

A mild example of how we create systems in schools that serve a malign control over teaching and learning:

Hyper control of curriculum delivery in a classroom with a poster on the wall expressing a organisation value of creative lesson planning

Doing regular retrieval homeworks is fundamental to closing the attainment gap. We have to show huge professional will to ensure student can and will do homework at ks4

These days I think that live modelling / model answers are the best β€˜feedbacks’ and that the highest impact thing you can do is create the conditions for students to take control of their own revision
