many experiences make vancouver feel like a much bigger city than it actually is - like taking skytrain at rush hour.

automation is a key reason a NA region w the population of minneapolis or denver can support a train every 1-2 minutes, something you'd expect in new york, toronto, or mexico city

I remember reading once that Mundy park exists because back in the day Munday bought the land thinking the railway would go through there, and then it didn't. I feel like Munday and whoever came up with this might have had the same topographical expert advising them on their decisions.

I feel like you need to expand a bit on the 'transformational' part here - what is it that you find to be transformational? Most people I know who got heavily into it ended up getting kind of bored with it and moving on to a new hobby for the most part.

Why tf does North America allow right turns on red? Was this ever a good idea? So proud of @ardenenglish.bsky.social for his first collaboration with the CBC!

Council has been pretty pro-dev't, so I'm not going to belabour this, but many of the comments from council seem to fail to understand that if you don't build housing for wealthier seniors, they won't disappear in a puff of smoke, they will instead outcompete poorer seniors for the remaining housing

After TO Council passed a motion indicating the City was open to Alternative Solution Proposals for a single stair in apts up to 4 storeys, I applied for a single stair in a 3 storey Part 9 6plex.

I’m told it’s the first one, so it’s a test case. Here’s how it’s going.

More people should understand that this is standard practice in American urban planning. The zoning on paper is not a real plan for growth, it's the opening bid in a highly politicized negotiation between home builders, elected officials, and activists with the power to kill projects.

I mean, Vancouver kind of is the most diverse city. I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, just, it is a pretty diverse place by almost any standard

The SFU School of Medicine is accepting applications for its first class of students, marking the launch of Western Canada's first new med school in nearly 60 years. With a 3-year program, the school will train family doctors fasterβ€”and closer to home.

Yes, and even though it is mostly a B lineup, Colombia is very deep, and the 'B' guys will be trying to prove they belong in the 'A' lineup.

Just Diaz and Locumi held over from the lineup vs Mexico, I think. CANMNT always struggles around the 60 minute mark under Marsch, that could be worse with Colombia bringing on their starters at that point...

Something to think about in Canada, where we have a right wing political movement whose only idea of how to make Canada better is to make it more like the United States

Finally got around to playing with TransLink realtime GTFS data. Kind of fun. Transit in Vancouver is looking pretty good, especially considering this is an hour midday on a holiday weekend, with some lines not running (hello 44) and not all buses reporting real-time information.

Not fully healthy without Davies, Johnston and Bombito, but not terrible. Probably Tani, not Promise, and Millar could come in for Ahmed depending on who is healthier, but otherwise makes sense, Marsch set out this window to play his best 11 for this match, but Colombia is very strong. Tough test.

Banning AirBnB is a case where the β€œabundance” framing is useful.

I get the desire to prioritize residents over visitors in a housing emergency.

But shouldn’t the bigger long-term goal be more housing *and* more hotels? Rather than just managing scarcity?

Pretty rare to see a team get shut out with 8 shots on target, but the finishing just wasn't there. Honestly this game reminded me of the 2022 WCQ qualifying opener at home against Honduras.

Before (2012) / After (2025) Rue le Vau, Paris 20. The change here is so radical that perceiving the photos as aligned is difficult (see the orange building and the trees on the left). In 2024, this section was converted into a school street with a bike lane running through the greenery.
