New piece in foreign policy. The US's postwar role as guarantor of Europeβs security is over.
But Europe has an overlooked trump card: when it comes to manufacturing it blows the US out of the water, giving Europe the ability to rearm.
Thread on Monday.

If we warm up the planet, the oceans will return and the atmosphere will densify, making it possible to extend life to Mars.
he's really so stupid and I can't stand it. if you warmed up mars and melted the water, the water would evaporate into space. Mars can't have a habitable atmosphere in its current state bc it has no magnetic field. solar winds strip away everything that isn't stuck to the surface.

I figured that itβll become politically difficult for European politicians to try and suck up to him because electorates see what Trump is doing and are very angry. But itβs even better than expected:
Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. (1/2)

The fact-checking and media literacy movements never came close to addressing the elephant in the room β the need to make social media companies liable like traditional media companies for the hateful and dangerous content that they permit on their channels.

Distortions in social media distort what we say and think by distorting our perceptions of what βeverybody elseβ thinks. This is how Musk or Zuck can drive us in warped directions.

This has always been my worst fear about climate change: the worse it gets, the more geopolitical chaos it causes; the more geopolitical chaos there is, the harder it is to cooperate to fight climate change.

Post by John Nichols: Harris is now winning a higher percentage of the popular vote than Trump in 2016 or 2020. Trump 2016: 46.1% Trump 2020: 46.8% Harris 2024: 48.4% Trump didnβt win a βlandslideβ in 2024. In fact, his victory margin is one of the smallest in US history.
This is a very important point. Please let everyone know.
