Although he was re-elected less than two years ago and imv there’s no reason to think Reform wouldn’t have a shot at the mayoralty. GM voted to leave; several Labour councils cd be at risk to Reform over the next 2/3 years, even if it may be less obvious this May because none of them are all out.

If Burnham stood and won the Gorton seat there would be a bi election for Greater Manchester. What happens if a Manchester Labour MP then wants to stand and becomes Mayor? Yet another Manchester bielection for their Westminster seat. Costly and distracting. It was the right decision.
