yeah, I buy this too

because it also explains: a movie director who clearly is just doing a shot for shot theft of some other, more successful movie

if I spatter some paint on a canvas it's a mess, if someone spends 10,000 hours spattering paint on a canvas it gets hung in a gallery

yeah, probably. the subtleties between "she makes more than me and we're both doing great" vs "she is carrying me and I'm not contributing enough" is both a huge psychological deal and also a mundane tax bracket difference

I can't remember what drugs they gave me, but I remember sitting in my parents' living room and watching Serenity three times in a row because I kept falling asleep in and out and replaying it when I realized I missed the end

to this day I don't think I've ever actually seen the ending

as a premise? for sure

in practice? it might take a while to get to the thing that would speed up the stuff that takes a while

honestly, good luck even

on the graph between 'local inference speed increases' and 'speed of lawmaking', only one of them is exponential

huh, I feel like I barely remember anything before like, age 25

like clearly I did stuff (some of it was good, even!) but it feels like I did infinitely more from, say, 25-30, or 30 on

I'm not sure it's within the weights - sometimes you see it slip the tool use - but it's certainly fast enough that sometimes it's hard to tell

yeah, in general I think I get better stuff the less I try to wring it out tightly

it's extremely exploratory for me. the latent space is soooo big, you never know what you'll find

I would argue that most (all?) movements / new mediums that started in the past also had their detractors

it's possible we're just noisier than the art galleries of yore, but it's all the same carousel

do you think I need to actually get dental work done, or can I just pop in there and ask for it

this photo was taken in 1979, back when we could cliff dive off waterfalls and fall in love under the summer sun

it doesn't even make sense - if you could paint the same thing twice on two canvases that would be like, the most robotic inhuman talent ever?

I can't even draw a smiley face on a sticky note the exact same way

art is a series of accidents that you lean into / away from until something emerges

I do definitely believe that - it's sort of like the CGI in movies thing: you only notice _bad_ CG and then complain about how bad CG is

the good CG is just... a movie. you liked the movie

people have commented / liked some my AI images in a way that I don't think they know it was even AI

I assume the real problem is that grilled cheese taste is fats and proteins, and other gums like mint or cinnamon are merely not?

maybe I'm just not chemistry enough to know, but I'm not sure how you'd emulate those flavors while also being oxidation stable

mm, yes and no - maybe there's a spectrum of ""personality"" between really different and like, the specific tone of a musical instrument or something

I definitely reach for different image models when I'm trying to get a specific output in the way that I'd choose this piano vs that keyboard

the way I learned it is being in the same room with other people who ask extremely good questions

(and then trying to increase the number of rooms I was in with such people)

haha, right? there's a dozen of them

and they all have the same problem which is that they're terrible as cars and also terrible micro-mobility alternatives to cars

it is funny, as a 3D artist I've seen both sides of this for my whole career -- there's definitely renders that take zero effort and people love them (and assume they're super hard to make), and there's renders that are, for reasons that aren't visible, incredibly hard to make but no one can see why

I'm not submitting PRs to main or anything, but because blender can run arbitrary python and everything inside blender is exposed to it, you can vibe code scripts to make it do basically anything you want

and I've done this many many times now to great productive effect

I wonder if this is part of the difference why making your own AI art is really fun and seeing other people's AI art is really boring

it's often incredibly surprising in the delta between what was intended in your head and what comes out, but viewers have no concept of what was intended

if I went back and told the 10 year old me about the internet, or google, or cell phones, or drones, or same-day delivery, or wikipedia, or modern video game screenshots, or battery density, or the vision pro, or casually 1000 hp cars, or aura rings, or ebikes, or my career, or AI, or HUE lights, or
